This traditional pub is in a great location and has an amazing view across the harbour. The decor is old and quaint and is really like stepping back in time. We weren't there long but from what we saw there was a steady stream of customers in and out all the time.

Booked room 4 initionally for 7 nights, the room was light and airy, tastefully decorated and well equipt with a lovely view of the harbour, the bar served a good range of ales and freshly cooked food, the staff were friendly and helpful, Laura the owner was particularly attentive and obliging, we asked to extend our stay for 1 extra... Stayed here for 3 nights , fab location but the room was of a poor standard , we paid £65 a night , was certainly not worth it . Plenty of places cheaper with better standard of room . Curtains was hanging off the curtain track , cleaner came once in 3 days , to work TV you had to... More

It was cold, wet evening. Tried to find somewhere to eat something more than fish and chips. Was directed to Duke of York. Old fashioned interesting pub but not as clean as we like and in need of a little sprucing up. Not a great choice of food.

Stayed here recently. Really nice rooms, plenty of milks, teas and coffees in room and nice biscuits. Ensuite and room very nice. Would recommend. Would stay again. Parked at the marina £6.50 for 24 hours.

Busy 'old town' pub with good views of the harbour. Had tasty haddock in a light batter coating with new potatoes and salad, Scampi with chips and mushy peas. Both presented well and hot. All washed down with a good pint. Gets very crowded of an evening, however service good and friendly.

Dropped in after a morning at the abbey. Excellent Whitby crab and ham sandwiches. Good cask ale, great view over the harbour. A good place to sit down after the 199 steps to and from the abbey. Service quick and pleasant from the young staff.

We love The Duke of York! We've just had our third short break in Whitby, and this pub is the place we head to on frequent occasions........whether it's just for a drink, or lunch or an evening meal. Delish sandwiches at lunchtime on this holiday! Food, service and atmosphere great! Highly recommended!

whilst holidaying in whitby. we did the pilgrimage to the steps, after which we carried on with a few steps of our own and walked straight in and found a table overlooking the harbour, its friendly and comfortable inside you have to be early to get a harbour view table as it gets quite full.the food was reasonably priced and served promptly... Dropped into here while visiting Whitby during our trip to Yorkshire for Le Tour de France. Just spotted pub while wandering around the town, and fancied a good traditional pub lunch, preferable with some seafood selection. Wasn't disappointed. We had a superb whole dressed lobster salad with chips - delicious & a real treat. Guests we were with just fancied... More
