We stayed in duke of york for one night. V nice room (2) straight onto the harbour side. What a spot to wake up in a morning and step straight onto the harbour side with a coffee. If you appreciate Whitby like we do you ll understand it doesn't get much better than that. Always loved the pub too. Always... More

We have been to this pub several times, normally for a drink and lunch. This time my wife's crab sandwiches were dull,. Lots of mayonnaise and little else. I had fish and chips which were terrible. The chips had obviously been reheated at least once, the fish was very greasy with little taste. It never used to be like this.... More

We had diner there one night while visiting Whitby for a weekend. The pub was very busy but we manage to find a sit. The food was good, although no vegan option for us. Ended up ordering the vegetarian burger (halloumi, avocado and mushroom)and removing the halloumi. The burger came without any sauce in it so no problem on that... More

Probably the best pub in Whitby in my opinion. Great atmosphere at lunch time. Good food and beer with exceptional views of Whitby harbour. Visited this pub twice during a 3 day break. Unfortunately the Whitby crab was unavailable the days we visited, hopefully next time.....

Popped in on a bit of a pub crawl around Whitby. From the outside it looks like a tiny quaint pub, on the inside it's a decent size, buzzing with nice clientele and has a stunning view over the harbour and west side of Whitby. Ale was very good indeed and the wife's Guinness hardly touched the sides. Looked like... More

just called in at the Duke of York for a pint and a sandwich on a bleak winters lunchtime. Very busy but well staffed with a broad range of lunch time food. Great selection of beers ,views across the Harbour, good company, great atmosphere. A well run pub doing everything well.

We called in for a drink on our first night, and enquired whether the baked crab (£11.95) might be available on the following night. The manageress said she would try her best to source one for Thursday, which she did, and it was delicious! My husband’s haddock and chips meal (£8.95) was also delicious. A lovely pub, with great views,... More

Lovely quirky pub tucked at the end of a narrow road overlooking the harbour and sea. Sat in a cosy corner and enjoyed a couple of afternoon drinks enjoying the view. Nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Whitby

We recently visited this pub for evening drinks. Upon entering a group of people were staring and complaining that the wind was blowing through the door as we opened it. A couple of us went back outside for a cigarette, and still they looked over and moaned. They spent a whole hour talking amongst themselves staring over at us and... More
