We arrived to check in (at the bar area), the girl handing us our keys was pleasant enough and showed us to our room. The hotel has a noticeably musty smell and the room (number 9) was small and badly needed updating. We tried to open the window but had to be really careful as the whole frame nearly fell... more
Stayed at the George Fri10th and Sat 11th April for easter break with my partner. When we arrived my partner went into the hotel to ask about parking. He was met by a bar person ( there wasn't a reception) who informed him the hotel did not have parking. We had to drive round to find a parking space and... more
My two sisters and I had a 'girlie' weekend away in Whitby in October 2008, free from husbands & children (and boy was it needed!). This hotel advertises itself as having a lively entertainment package but that is also welcome for relaxing stays. What they don't tell you is the rooms on the 'lower floors' - i.e. up to the 2nd floor - have such poor sound insulation that the walls all but vibrate with noise. When I complained I was told that no one... more
I wish I had read the reviews on here before we were allocated Room 10 - yes the air conditioning fan does go all night and kept us awake - more that the live music did. The standard of cleaning - especially in the bathroom - left a lot to desire. The hotel is just about OK for 1 night... more
