From the outside the pub doesn't look much, but once inside it is a great oldy worldy pub with cheap beer if you go during a week day and very well kept. The rooms are great and roomy and tucked away from the main bar hidden behind a key card. Would definitely recommend and close to the main town in... More

The George is in a great location and Whitby is a lovely town for a weekend break. The hotel isn't 5 star by any means but the rooms are good, linen and bathroom clean and staff were helpful. We stayed in a room at the front of the hotel which was noisy in the morning but a pair of earplugs... More

Most people would call The George a pub with rooms rather than a hotel. It's location is very central, being located opposite the railway station in the centre of Whitby. We were a party of four, each with our own rooms. My room was a double room that was generally clean and tidy apart from some stains on the carpet... More

First class hotel, very clean and perfectly located. Thought the complimentary breakfast might not be very good, but was so wrong, it made a great change, while all self service it was easy and there was plenty...as much as you want in fact, great choice and all nice. I would happily stay at the George Hotel again. Terry Edwards Bridlington... More

My partner and 2 small children stayed here for 2 nights and had a fab time. It is more of a pub than a hotel but even though we stayed in the floor directly above we were all able to sleep fine. Yes you can hear some noise but it's not disruptive, not over the noise my 2 kids can... More

The George Hotel was ideal for us arriving in Whitby by train, and the bar staff kindly took in our luggage when we arrived a couple of hours before check-in. The bars have an amazing variety of entertainments (and very attractively-priced beers and wines, too, including several real ales) for those who want them, but a "residents' door" off Baxtergate... We went with our 4 month old baby so as you can imagine we had a pram, carrycot, nappies, milk, bottles and out clothes and they put us on the top floor which was up several different stair cases the a winding stair case over 3 floors. It took us 3 trips when arriving and leaving. This was the only... More

Hi, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately all our non-en suite rooms are located on the top floor of the hotel and we do appreciate that there is quite a lot of stairs. As the hotel is a listed building it is not possible for us to add a lift, however staff will always help with any bags when required.... More

For once I didn't use Trip Advisor before I booked a hotel, if I had I would have stayed clear of the George. The location near the station and harbour is good, but its downhill from there. The check-in is bizarre and you are asked to sign terms and conditions, which is no doubt due to previous guests causing damage,... More

Hi, All guests are required to sign a guest registration form on check-in, this is standard for most hotels. The £35 price is based on two or more staying in a room. This is clearly stated on all signs. You were in a double room as single occupancy, so there is a reduction from £70 to £50 for single occupancy.... More

Luckily we never read the previous comments on TripAdvisor and booked into the George Hotel for three-days in midweek last September. There is no on site parking but the town car park is almost opposite and parking is available for 24 hours. The George is a lively pub and situated close to the centre of Whitby so everything is within... More

Hi, thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay here and we all look forward to welcoming you again in the future. With regards to the noise from the road due to no double glazing, the hotel is a grade 2 listed building and we are unable to install double glazed windows. More
