The hotel is like a stately home. We stayed in a four poster room on the front of the property overlooking rolling countryside. The room was huge and well equipped. The ensuite could be better though with an old shower over a bath not ideal. The staff were difficult to find at first and when we wanted them it took... More

I booked this hotel at the last minute during Goth Weekend so I could see the Dracula play at Whitby Abbey. A few of the online reviews made it seem that you would be made to feel an outsider if you were not part of the HF Holiday group but this was not the case. OK - I do have... More

Just had a wekend at Larpool Hall. It's an ideal venue for a group walking holiday as it caters for wet boots, packed lunches, evening activities eg table tennis, mixed tables for dining. Our room was at the front and had lovely autumnal views. Comfy bed, excellent shower, tea/coffee (and flask making) facilities, tv. The food was good and plentiful... More

If you like walking, and I mean REALLY like walking, then an HF Holiday at Whitby at Larpool Hall is a fantastic option. This is a 'hard core' walking holiday for families, many of whom have been before. We were there in June 2010. This was no ordinary hiking holiday, there were ten other families and loads of kids our... More

Having just returned from a Family Holiday Walking Week at HF Holidays' Whitby Country House, Larpool Hall, we can both (my daughters aged 8) highly recommend both the hotel and the holiday. You are made to feel so welcome by the hotel staff and volunteer leaders that you feel at home immediately and its so easy to make friends in... More

Although the Hall is mainly used by HF groups, individuals can book and will be warmly welcomed by both the staff and the walking groups. As has been stated, food is served on tables of 8 complete with a lazy susan to spin round. The food is good to very good with a reasonable choice, good service and convivial, though... More

Nice and clean, hunt for staff to be able to book in though. If you dont like sitting with other people at the breakfast table its not for you. Better for large groups than couples.

I have just spent a week at Larpool Hall as part of a walking group of about 35 people. To describe it as an overpriced Youth Hostel and give it the lowest rating possible as someone has done is in my opinion extremely disingenuous. The hotel is orientated towards groups of walkers and supplies organised travel and routes for different... More
