This is a very traditional style pub in the heart of Whitby. You can get a large selection of real ale's and other drinks. This is one of the more expensive pubs in the town, but many of the other bars are Sam Smith's and nobody can compete with those prices! They offer a limited selection of food, like Yorkshire... A small, quaint & traditional seaside pub where you get a warm & friendly welcome from the staff. Has a small selection of well kept real ales which are reasonably priced compared to the rest of the U.K. Will next again when next in the area.

I visited Whitby on Monday 18 November and after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we decided to taste the atmosphere of The Black Horse, this 'Great Pub with friendly warm welcoming staff'. On walking into the side entrance room we were confronted with this enormous dog sprawled across the floor whose owner made no attempt to shift it so... More

The Black Horse is what I would term a traditional pub, although limited snacks at the bar and guest rooms are available. If you enjoy a quiet drink without tripping over kids, sharing a table with people eating 3 course meals, being subject to others selections of music ( though they have had live music on occasion which I think... I stayed for two nights, and found the room clean and comfortable. The pub is great - though the food offerings are minimal, the beer is terrific, and the place is just comfortable to be in (and there are so many restaurants nearby that food is not really necessary). The location is excellent - right in the middle of old... More

My wife and I stayed over for two nights in this quirky old pub. It is in the older and more quaint part of the town on a narrow cobbled street. It deserves the plaudits of both Cask Marque and CAMRA for its beers. Staff were friendly and knowlegable about their product. The room was OK for a couple of... More

On our recent family visit to Whitby - we were made to feel very welcome at this little gem of a pub. Excellent beer, beautifully preserved rooms, and a great location on Church street (near the Abbey steps). The friendly staff took the time to talk to us and were very welcoming of this family and our large dog -... More

I visit Whitby regularly and we always go in The Black Horse. The staff are without fail friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. Great location close to the Abbey steps etc. Dogs are made to feel welcome and there is always a good atmosphere with a mix of locals and tourists.

Small but perfectly formed and loads of character. Situated on alovely cobbled street. Toilets are a tight squeeze. Staff friendly and helpful. Local and guests ales available. Just around the the corner from the Abbey and the harbour.
