A lovely, warm felt seaside pub with character. From walking through the door it was like walking back in time. A nice quiet pub, the selection of ales was reasonable. Regarding food, they offer local pork pies with choice of toppings and condiments and bar snacks e.g peanuts, pork scratchings. Overall a decent drinkers pub.

A lovely traditional pub in Whitby. Very small and cosy lots of choice of local ales. Very friendly bar staff and a nice relaxing atmosphere. When you walk in from the street the bar seems very small but there is another bar round the back

we stayed for two nights in the black horse, it's full of character and serves a great pint of beer. we stayed in the room overlooking church street which was a little noisy on saturday night, but then you're staying in a pub in the middle of whitby so what can you expect? it doesn't have the newest decoration, nor... Stayed for one night 18/10/2014. Only 4 rooms available, room only basis. Its a shame this great pub doesn't offer breakfast to go with the rooms. There are however many places in the area that do offer breakfast, ut if its cold and wet stepping outside for breakfast is the last thing you want to do when feeling a little... More

Love this pub. Friendly staff and welcoming regulars. We popped in here at least once everyday during our stay in Whitby. A proper pub , you often have to share a table with other drinkers but that just adds to the ambience.. Lots of ciders and real ales to choose from.

Two things attracted us to this pub, the sign outside said 'dog friendly' and another one had a tapas menu that really appealed. We found a great table in the corner at the back, lots of other doggies too, we put our little towels out for the dogs and they made themselves at home, and after perusing the menu we... More

We simply adore The Black Horse! This place is a proper pub, with wonderful bar staff and the friendliest of patrons: a visit to Whitby wouldn't be complete if we didn't have a pint here. This pub means a lot to us, as we've had some fantastic nights here and will always have some lovely memories of The Black Horse.... More

This is what pubs used to be like before the big breweries renovated them. It was like a step back in time and was so nice not to have a TV or music blaring out. So comfortable and friendly that we called in a couple of times. It would have been more if we had been staying in Whitby a... More
