Last minute booking for a birthday treat. We were in a double room, room 7, which was on the second floor a the front of the hotel. A good location for the centre of Whitby. Parking can be limited but not a problem (disk for 2 hours) and the main car parks are a 2 minute walk away. The rooms... More

Arrived to find note on locked door to ring Steve. He said cleaner would be there straight away - 15 mins later she came and handed us key to room 5, no welcome, nothing ! Smell hits you the minute you enter hotel, musky, dirty carpets etc. Light above bed was falling off with live wires sticking out , told... More

Great weekend here in a quiet location. comfortable bed and nice and clean. Friendly staff and a great breakfast either in the hotel itself or at the Quarterdeck. We walked down to the harbour to eat breakfast in the Quarterdeck watching the boats go in and out of the harbour. Excellent.

The owners have done a decent job of making an old style B&B come in to the modern era. The place was clean as a whistle and The Esplanade did the job it was supposed to do. Saying that, when we first arrived the room smelled like a wet dog but after an hour or two with the window open,... More

It wasn't the Hilton, but we didn't pay Hilton prices. Pound for pound this is a good value base for a holiday in Whitby. It's a short walk from the sea-front, pier, harbour, shops, Pavilion etc., and our room (#7) had a view of the Abbey. The staff were friendly and easy-going, the room was a good size and quiet,... Stayed for two nights in room 8, which is very small but clean. Bedroom area could have been better equipped, suggest another bedside table, making one for each bed. Regarding the bathroom, shower was OK with very hot water. However no shelves or hooks to place/hang items. Also grouting on bathroom floor very poor, bits kept attaching to feet. It... More

Had a two night stay and found the staff/owners friendly and welcoming. Very helpful. Only downside was the three floor hike to the room. Breakfast was ok, but much better at the owner's affiliated restaurant, the Quarterdeck. Staff there also friendly and helpful. Breakfast there was included in the room price and i thought that was really good. Overall a... More

My partner and I stayed at the esplanade for 1 night earlier on this week. When we arrived the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We stayed in room 7 which we were very impressed with. It was a double room, the bed was comfy, it was very spacious, the bathroom was modern, it had a flat screen tv on... More

Excellent, stayed for 2 nights. Very easy going host, option of a late breakfast at the quarterdeck is ideal if you have been out for a few ales the night before. Will be staying again next time we are in Whitby!

My friend and I stayed one night with our 11 year old sons in a family room to take in the delights of Whitby and Staithes. The Esplanade was welcoming, clean and tidy with tea and coffee making facilities, tv and hairdryer in our room. A good shower freshened us up in the morning ready for a great breakfast which...
