Stayed for a weekend in a room with a double bed, and a bunk and a view of the Abbey. Very clean, comfortable and adequate. Agree with others about the noise from the heating but can forgive that given the beautiful location.

The location is absolutely stunning; right next to the Abbey and a short walk down the steps into the old side of the town. The only downside being that, after the Hop-On Hop-Off bus has stopped running, the only way to reach it is either by car or to clamber up those pesky 199 steps. Me and my friend (not... More

Having called here for the first time to enjoy the fabulous view and to look round the beautiful Abbey Plain, my wife and I decided to have tea in the YHA Cafe. I ordered tea for two and one fruit scone with butter........price £5.45. On cutting the scone it was clear it hadn't been cooked through and was very "stodgy",... More

Excellent location as next to abbey and short walk to town down very steep path. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent bicycle storage facilities. Bunk beds very comfortable. As had ensuite we had a whole dorm to ourselves. Breakfast for just under a fiver was excellent. Great washing facilities as we had 7 days of clothes to wash. Excellent self catering... More

YHA Whitby is just close to the Abbey. It means that it's on the top of the hill, that everytime you get to the Hostel you have a fantastic view of the ruins... that there are NO buses going up to there and therefore, if you don't have your own car, you will have to use the 199 famous stars... Brilliant setting right by the dramatic abbey - great views of it from quaint conservatory and garden terrace as well as fab views of Whitby harbour. Some communal rooms have beautiful architecture and are light and airy, plenty of fridge space in the kitchen and rooms clean and functional. Be prepared for a lot of stairs if you have booked... Wasn't too sure about staying in a youth hostel but with 9 of us travelling just for one night this seemed a good option. I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms very clean (with en-suite). Hotel had everything we needed including a choice of self catering kitchen or restaurant. We would definitely stay... More

We stayed at YHA Whitby for 2 nights from the 18th of August 2014, from our arrival we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff from the ladies on reception to the staff in the restaurant. The hostel is in a fantastic location on the East Cliff overlooking Whitby and next door to the Abbey, as we stayed at... More

Not my favourite Yha but nevertheless, amazing hostel. Location is perhaps one of the best in Whitby! Right next to the abbey, in a huge house looking out over the town. At the top of the 199 steps, perhaps not ideal for those with limited mobility (or else no access to car, although it looks like a tour bus does... More

Great location with lovely, clean facilities and really friendly staff. Becca was a star sorting out some bedding for us and all the reception team were knowledgable and happy to give recommendations. Highly recommend it any time of the year! We will be back!
