Four of us stayed here in one twin and one double for 4 nights self drive. We had third floor sea view rooms over looking the sea and breakwater. The rooms were what we expected,as we have stayed in numerous Shearings hotels before. Only real complaint was the room television, which was old, most people threw these on the tip years ago. Our room... More

Good old Sheerings who soften you up in their sumptuous coaches only to dump you outside this tired establishment. You are greeted by an exterior that presents lifeless plastic flowers, shabby signage and iron ballastrade in need of a fresh lick of paint. Situated in a lofty position this hotel should shine out as a beacon across Whitby bay, but... More

We've stayed in Whitby a couple of times, but this was a first time at the Bay Royal. It's up on the west cliffe, which is pretty central (literally a couple of minutes walk) but it does mean that there are either steps or pretty steep slopes to get into and out of the town.We rang to see if we... I stayed at the Royal Hotel, Whitby as part of a four day National Holidays tour. This impressive looking hotel is prominently located on the cliff top overlooking the harbour with views across to the abbey. Upon checking in, there was a long wait for the lift to take my luggage to my top-floor room as the lift was very... More

the royal has the best location in Whitby imo, great views over the sea and across the harbour to the abbey, the building is old and a bit tired but the staff are bright, friendly and cheerful, the food is good, the room I had was clean and comfortable, if you want ultra modern hotel then go somewhere else, perfect... Having been to a few Shearings holidays I would say that the Royal is a standard issue Bay hotel. The building is big, impressive and nicely placed to look out on one side out to sea and another side looking over the harbour. The room and the food were good considering what we paid. The room was clean but was... More
