After reading some of the reviews on here, I was a little worried about staying here but I needn't have worried. Yes the hotel is a little tired in some areas but it was very clean and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We stayed in room 341 and had a lovely sea view. We watched the world go... More

I made my visit to The Bay Royal Hotel again from 4th April to 7th April. The hotel has always been very good to me. Featuring cosy rooms, great food and a team that always gives 110%. I've visited the hotel 9 times and I will not stay anywhere else. Emma served my breakfast and evening meals and she's a... More

A group of us visited Monday to Friday in March (2014) as a jumping off point for a coastal walking holiday. The rooms were spacious, well equipped and clean, although those which had not yet been refurbished were a little tired in places. The food was of excellent quality and there was sufficient choice. There was entertainment all nights with... More

The room was clean & very spacious. The staff were very polite friendly and helpful. We only had breakfast in the hotel it was satisfying & there was an endless supply... More

This is a large hotel, in a superb location looking across Whitby harbour onto the Abbey. It caters for 3-400 people over 3 floors, and that is the biggest problem. There is just one, tiny, lift. It is what I would call a '4 man cosy' or '2 man with luggage'. Every morning of our stay after breakfast the lift... More

I appreciate you taking the time to post your review and although you don’t say, I hope you enjoyed your stay with us. It is true the lift is perhaps a little small for the size of the building however it does keep up with demand very well. I’m confused as to your comments regarding the porters using it every... I have just returned from my 3rd stay at this hotel ( my 11th holiday with Shearings) and I loved every minute of it.Ok, yes, the hotel does definitely need money spending on it but the location and the staff more than make up for this.I never have any problems with the food,it's such a treat to have meals cooked... My husband and I only stayed for one night ( Sunday), but we still managed to park the car for free outside the hotel We had a lovely room on the first floor over looking the sea.The room was big enough, and the bed we had was very comfortable and clean, also lovely white fluffy towels. The staff were excellent... More

Stayed here recently for a mid week break. The rooms we had were dire! They were not particularly clean and the daily "cleaning" left a lot to be desired. I ended up leaving 3 glasses from the bar (one from each evening) on the dressing table. They were never cleared away until we departed!! There were complaints from many of... More

The staff were really helpful and great entertainment the first time I went but the second the entertainment plan had changed so on Sunday nights there was nothing on but there was still the bar, and complimentary tea and coffee!
