For basic guest houses its sometime difficult to differentiate. The Riveria does try and succeeded in a positive manner in most ways. However people are different and some people like the ordering forms for breakfast but to me who has done several hundred nights in guest houses/hotels they seemed a total complication e.g. there was nothing on menu which was... stayed here for a couple of nights in first week of August and had a lovely room, sea view and friendly hosts. Zed went out of his way to help us. As we were on the top floor our shower was running cold but he tried to sort out the problem without a grumble. Was still cold mind but just... More

A lovely hotel situated on the cliff, with lovely views from the sea facing room. We were in one of the sea facing attic rooms, a lot of stairs to climb - not for the faint hearted, but the views of the sea and Whitby abbey were worth it. The hotel was within easy access to all the amenities. The... More

I had the pleasure of staying three days at the Riviera this month and had a really wonderful time. The direct booking was easy, I was immediately made to feel welcome by Zed and Emma and the exercise of 40 stairs was great for the cardio vascular region! The breakfasts were first class the "order forms" such a great idea... More

We have been staying at the Rivera for the last four years since starting to go to the Northern Soul Weekends the first weekend in July. We love the location, our room is so nice & comfy with a great sea view, the breakfast is lovely, but the best of all is Emma, Zed & Zak ,they are excellent hosts... More

Unfortunately my poor husband was a little unwell during our holiday (nothing to do with the hotel) and he was gutted that he'd missed a breakfast especially after I told him how cracking and perfectly cooked it was - zed and Emma were helpful and very accommodating with our toddler. We had room 5 it was ok, ( could do... More

Lovely guest house right on the front. Spectacular views, didn't need the TV. Made very welcome by Zed. Two nice rooms, only downside was the 60 stairs!!!! Something about my age I expect! Very nice breakfast, ordered by us the day before. Met Zak at breakfast times and Anna. Thank you. We will be back :-)

Me and my partner stayed at The Riviera guest house for a long weekend in July 2014. Upon arrival we were greeted by Zed and immediately made to feel welcome. Zed was very helpful and showed us to the room, explained how to order breakfast and left us to it. Our room was neat and tidy with stunning views of... More

Stayed for a long weekend in July. ive stayed here a few times before in 2013. The hosts gave us the same warm welcome as last year, the weather was beautiful and the views pretty stunning. The owners remembered us and chatted to us like old friends. Would never stay anywhere else in whitby.

We chose the Riviera on the basis of location, price and it`s four star claim. The location..on the sea front on West Cliff was fine and the price was reasonable but the four star rating was ambitious to say the least. The room was spacious but extremely tired and tatty although did have modern flat screen TV. There was no... More
