I first stayed at the George Hotel in 2007 looking for a hotel to bring a group of 50 people to see a Christmas Show in Thursford. From my first contact the staff could not do enough to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. Staying with my wife we had the opportunity to sample the hotel as private... more

Stayed in the George mid-week whilst on business - many of the other large hotels in Norwich were full. It's a pleasant hotel in a quiet residential area about 5 - 10 mins taxi ride south-west of the city centre and train station. I was given room 138 - a first floor room with a comfortable double bed, several huge... more

The restaurant attached to the hotel provided great food - the evening meal was great and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and accommodating. However, the hotel needs a good refurbishment. The rooms were clean but very shabby. Worn out carpet through the hallways and the back rooms of the hotel had a musty smell to them. My request to change... more

Positively one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Dirty, shabby small rooms with ancient fittings and furniture. Appalling breakfast with no fresh fruit. They deducted £20 from the tariff but still not worth the experience. Stay anywhere but here more

Very disappointed with stay, though a previous stay was OK! Dreadful pokey single room on ground floor. Shabby furniture, but not in a chic way. No cup for complimentary tea / coffee. No remote for TV, then discovered no aeriel lead so TV unuseable on first night. No room service menu either -- eventually got one from the bar. On... more

We thought the reception area and indeed the receptionists were friendly and helpful. We had room 22 located on the ground floor. The approach was through a maze of hallways with old worn out carpets, one glass door was cracked and the general initial appearance was very shabby. Our room was just about adequate but felt worn out. The bed... more

We had a lovely weekend at the George Hotel in Norwich. The lovely Garden Suite, the very good food (both nights, Rosette Awarded), and courteous and friendly staff did make it an enjoyable and relaxing w/e. Only a 10 min walk to the city centre, would definately recommend this hotel. more

Had trouble choosing from the vast morass of Norwich hotels so picked this one sight unseen on the basis of its AA rosette for food. The food was indeed good, the restaurant atmospheric and the bar pleasant. The room was a little disappointing but was clean and in possession of all the usual comforts. The thing that really made the... more

We reserved a double room with shower and bath but were given the most ridiculous, tiny twin (shower only) instead, without warning. We asked to change but couldn't. one of the beds was too small for either of us to sleep on comfortably - head against one wall and feet against another meant we could not stretch out. I ended... more

Located in quiet area... a typical English hotel with strange up and down stair cases to the rooms. The room #127 was fine for one or possibly two people. Bathroom was fine, bed was comfortable, room heating was noisy with steam pipes but could be turned off with valves. Housekeeping was very good. Very nice people working at the reception,... more
