The room was poorly decorated/equiped with old 'military-type' blankets, no Wi-Fi in room and in ground flour lounge, medium quality breakfast, and there was a 3% 'surprise' charge for credit card payment (i.e. the price agreed was valid for cash payment only).

Came back to the Bloomsbury area of London for the second time in one year to visit the theatre again. After finding a hotel with mostly good reviews and cheap prices, we went with this one. Personally, most of these issues didn't bother me that much as I spent most of my time out of the hotel, but I feel... More

This hotel is in a prime location a few blocks from the Russell Square tube stop, and also close to several cafes, restaurants, and grocery stories if you want a quick bite. Staff and proprietor are friendly and helpful. There is a lounge with all kinds of books & magazines left by former guests. Quiet, comfy place (not for tour... More

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Celtic Hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Many options for full English breakfast. Room was clean and great value for a London hotel located close to British Museum, British Library and Russell Square Park. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Tube station 1 block away. Great for the budget-minded traveler.

Great budget hotel in fantastic location. Away from the crowds, but just around the corner from the Russell Square underground station so it's easy to get anywhere in the city - as well as to and from Heathrow and the Eurostar station. Small grocery store and places to eat as well as parks nearby. Very clean and safe. Had a... More

The Celtic is a family-owned, old-style original London Hotel, with plenty of personal service and charm. Expect to meet well-trodden travelers and other characters in the comfortable, if not well-worn lobby. I particularly enjoyed being served a proper British breakfast instead of battling out at the typical breakfast buffet served by so many other hotels today. The rooms are not... More

I find it hard to write this review because I made the reservation based on positive TA reviews. The only positive is the location. We had a 3-night stay and we found it noisy--paper-thin walls; questionable cleanliness (worn, spotted and dirty carpet; there is a shared bath with a shower and WC, and there was lots of hair on the... I have stayed many times at the St Margaret's, once owned by the Marazzi family, and now more than once at the Celtic. I am impressed by the upgrading they have accomplished since my last visit several years ago. Everyone who works at the hotel is friendly and very willing to accommodate special requests. As another reviewer said, the breakfast... More

We are now on our fifth visit and it has been consistently good with the same family-owned quality service. The only problem, if you are on a diet, is that they are very disappointed if you don't eat a huge breakfast.

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
