I have stayed at the Penn Club on multiple visits to London as well as when I have been transiting to work in Africa. Located in a terrific area of London (it is a 5 minute walk to the British Museum, right by Russell Square [and the Russell Square tube] and near Bloomsbury Square) with lots of good ethnic restaurants... The rooms vary from simple with shared bathroom to en suite and the price range reflects this. I had a single en suite located at the top of the house on the third floor. The atmosphere is calm and sedate, perfect after the hustle and bustle of site seeing. Breakfast is plentiful and you can chose to sit at a... More

Wonderful location, off Russell Square. Very good, basic accommodation. I shared a twin room with a friend .I also felt that I would feel comfortable if I were staying as a single person. Excellent breakfast, helpful ad friendly staff, clean.

I stayed at the Penn Club for a recent trip as I had received recommendations from colleagues and I was a bit shocked at the prices of London hotels compared with other large cities. The first impact was good, as reception was welcoming and accomodating. The room was spacious for London with a great garden view, and very soft beds.... More

Fantastic price in one of the most expensive cities in the world. I have stayed here three times and can say that this Quaker lodging is very clean and, while spartan, very comfortable. There is no elevator so if you cannot carry your bags up the steep stairs, request a ground floor room. There is no AC, though some limited... More

I have stayed at the Penn Club several times over the past five years. It is a very peaceful and quiet hotel in the heart of Bloomsbury, a two minute walk from the British Museum, close to Russell Square and Holborn tube stations and at a walkable distance from the British Library and Wellcome Trust. The rooms are fairly basic... More

The Penn Club. 31.3.2015 – 3.4.2015 and 24.4.2015 We were tipped off about this genuine “find” by a friend who stayed earlier in the year. While this is a club for Quakers, it is open to non-Quakers, and is a little advertised gem in the heart of London’s Bloomsbury. The Club owns four adjoining town houses, and it offers bed... More

I've stayed at the Penn Club twice since it was recommended to me by a friend last year. It is well located for central London and the peace and simplicity is a welcome antidote to the hustle and bustle that is London. Breakfast was good too. However, if you are looking for ostentatious luxury and stimulation this probably isn't the... More

This is an excellent place to stay, very central , just two minutes walk from Russell Square tube station . The place itself is excellent , the rooms very adequate and the breakfast superb . I have been on a number of occasions now and have always enjoyed my stay . Perhaps one small comment , the service at breakfast... More

The Penn Club is very convenient for Bloomsbury - perfect for academics and tourists. Good tube stops and train stations near by. It's quiet and simple, but always friendly and pleasant. I've never had problems with the wifi. Only complaint I have is that sometimes in the summer, it can be stuffy as no air con. I always stay here... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
