Interesting experience - double bad in the dormitory =)) Each bed has curtains and a private lamp inside. We felt ourselves quite secluded! Satisfying breakfast. What we didn't like: Very tight shower room. A bit smelly room because of other guest's boots. No free adapter for european plugs (you can buy it for 5 pounds on the reception).

For many years now, Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage has offered the best deal in London for the discerning budget traveller. The location is unbeatable (minutes from Finchley Road and Swiss Cottage tube stations and loads of bus routes); the building is handsome and distinguished (it's the former lodge of Mr Palmer of Huntley and Palmer's the biscuit manufacturers); the staff... The building is so beautiful. Great location very easy to access subway, restaurants and grocery stores. Helpful staff. Very basic breakfast. Tasty vegetarian meal for dinner at the hostel. The rooms...well, not so nice. I got the tallest bunk bed (three high) from a mixed room. It was very uncomfortable to go up and down to the bunk bed. Ventilation... More

This is my favorite hostel in London , I come here quite often although prices keep on going up, I still think it's worth it because the location is good, near two Tube stations and several buses, the building is fantastic, it's like staying in a mansion, the dorms are excellent because every bed has curtains around it so you... A quite nice building with history in the walls. Quick walk to nice pubs, underground and Camden. Basic breakfast. Rather basic rooms... cold and drafty, but it's England, after all. The breakfast area was undergoing a renovation when we stayed there, and I'm sure it's going to be really good once it's done. Some of the staff seemed to been... More

This was one of the most beautiful hostels I have stayed at. Its a fantastic old building with heaps of charm. The staff are very friendly, sometimes just coming over for a chat. I looked forward to the breakfast each morning as it was always delicious and served down in a lovely outdoor courtyard. I stayed in a 24 person... More

As a more mature couple, we stayed here for my husband to attend The Royal Free hospital. Staff were helpful, we were in a double, shared dorm on the ground floor. If you think of heavy duty, double bunk beds, three high. You feel like you are in a low four poster bed. There are curtains all round and the... More

As far as hostels go, Palmer's Lodge is decent-nice rooms, curtain and light on the bed for privacy, clean bathrooms. I, like other patrons on here it appears, was extremely unhappy with how I was treated by staff, as were those I was traveling with. Just because it is a hostel for the younger crowd on a budget does not... More

Close to tube, Jubilee Line giving easy access to sights and tourist attractions. Rooms very clean. Helpful staff on reception. Rooms were hot but fans are provided. Plenty of sockets in each room. Generally quiet but spring closures on doors invariably lead to banging but remember its for safety. Lovely building full of character one of the best hostels I... More

I went to London this past November and stayed at Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage. It took us a while to find it (we were new to London) but when we did we were surprised with how nice it looked. I had low expectations because the hostel we stayed in in Paris was nice, but the decor was outdated. We stayed... More
