The Vicarage could be used as a setting for either of the 2 stories mentioned in the title of this review. This establishment oozes charm, atmosphere and ambience. Staying here is like going back 200 years in time. For those who complain about the fact that there are no elevators and you have to carry your own luggage up to... More

I can't begin to tell you what a wonderful experience we had staying at The Vicarage Hotel! We were lucky enough, to be traveling with five other females, one of whom had stayed here 17 different times! That should tell you how much she 'loves' it! From the moment we arrived, (weary after being up over 24 hours) , Monica... More

The Vicarage is the best value in London. It's like being home and Mandy and Monika, the managers, couldn't possibly be more helpful or courteous. The location is great for getting all over London and the neighborhood is safe and welcoming. Great place in every way.....don't miss it!

This is a very nice place to stay in a great location, convenient and quiet. Old-fashioned yet commodious. Good breakfast. Friendly management. Highly recommended. An elevator would make it perfect! Really liked being so close to several good restaurants and to the tube stations.

Stay here if: 1. You want to be in walking distance of an underground station, Kensington Gardens, and lots of other attractions. 2. You want great value accommodation - £50 for a basic single (no en suite) - for in this part of London - affordable alternatives in this part of London there ain't. 3. You want to stay in... More

I have fond memories of staying here 20-30 years ago when I was young and rates were pretty low, and an old-fashioned Victorian B&B fit my idea of heaven -- like The Dutchess of Duke Street brought to life. We used to go jogging every morning past Kensington Palace, and the guards at the top and bottom of the street... More

Wonderful location with easy access to bus stops and tube stations (make sure to get an Oyster Card.) Room was small but my experience in England is that all hotel rooms are small. Still it was large enough and we only slept there anyway. Full breakfast was included in our room rate and it was worth it. It was excellent... More

This doesn't seem like a hotel - more like a room for rent. My husband and I arrived at around 10 pm exhausted from traveling and rang the bell only to be met by an aggravated host (and forget about getting help with bags). We were celebrating both our birthdays & anniversary and there wasn't even a verbal acknowledgement. At... More

There were four of us and we used room #7 on the 3rd floor. No lift, and quite a workout to get to room. At first not to excited about room, but it grew on us and we loved it after the first day. Beds clean and comfortable. The room was a bit stuffy, but we were able to open... More

Excellent location. Room was faded and dirty, the radiator filthy. My bottom pillow had hair on from a previous occupant. Furniture old and junk rather than antique. the room was stuffy and air less. Tiny TV. Bathroom was small but adequate. Breakfast was ok but awful stewed coffee and no better when we asked for a fresh cup. The whole experience... More
