If you have stayed in a London hostel before, you may have notices as I have that the standards are quite low and you often don't get a lot for your money. Having these kinds of expectations I chose to stay at the dictionary purely because of it's location as it's in Hackney and most of my favourite clubs and... More

Thanks for your great review - it's always really nice to get such great feedback. :) Glad you like our location as much as we do - you're right, there are so many good clubs and pubs around here!! You should definitely come back to see the swings we've put up in rooms X and W and the cereal café... More

I stayed for two nights with two friends of mine, I loved the location, the rooms were trendy and the staff is really nice and always helpful. As down points I think that the wifi connection could be a bit better, and the cleanliness could also be better. But other than that, I loved staying there and I would totally... More

Hi! Thanks for the review :) Glad you loved our location. We think it’s great too! Thank you also for your kind words about our staff – that’s great to hear and I’ll certainly pass the message on to them. I’ll have a word with the Head Cleaner about your comments regarding cleanliness. Please do recommend us to your friends!... More

I stayed there 2 nights and was not amazed by it. Yes it was clean, the staff are super friendly and professional, the rooms are decent in size and comfort, but some things simply have to exist in every modern hostel: like a key to every guest, kitchen open for longer hours and wifi in every room. Even though it... More

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. :) I'm glad you found us to be clean, friendly and professional - that's always great! The kitchen is now open until 3am, so hopefully that solves one of your issues. :) Regarding the keycards: you're right, it's not acceptable!! It has also been incredibly frustrating for me too. I put... More

I stayed here for 2 nights. The hostel looked nice. It's in a cool area. About a 10 minutes walk from Old Street underground. The girls at the reception were kind. Only there weren't any room keys left. I think any hostel should have a room key for every guest. The room was alright. I stayed in a 12 bed... More

Hi there! Thanks for the review. I completely take your point about the key cards. We had ordered 250 new ones several weeks ago, but there was a delay at the factory which left us short. Apologies! We have just received 80 of those 250 cards which has solved the problem for now. ;) Our beds are changed the morning... More

I am torn because I would love to give those guys 5/5 for their caring, easygoing service, very clean rooms and great interior design, but the luggage room is pretty much left unsupervised, and the kitchen closed at night while you were not allowed to take food to your rooms for hygienic reasons ... but apart from that it was... Hi. Thanks for your review and kind words. I take your point about the luggage room. It is CCTV monitored and there is a receptionist manning the desk in front of the luggage room 24/7, but now we have an additional lock on the door into the room. We ask guests not to take food into the rooms to prevent... More

Stay here.....we spent one night when in town for a gig. Great location, speedy check in. Great value for money. Dorm was ensuite, had bunk beds which had good bedding matresses and pillow. Free breakfast downstirs in the basement kitchen the next morning. If you are looking for 5 star then go to a hotel. Some of the reviews on... More

3 staff working at reception desk BUT only one was serving, the other 2 didn't acknowledge people waiting. This is very frustrating when it seemed to take a while to check people and some people just wanted to ask simple questions. However most of the time the staff were very friendly and helpful Hostel was clean and Tidy, small but... More

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear about your issues! Normally we have 2 on reception, so if there was a 3rd down there, I imagine they might have been trying to fix the computer, but that's no excuse though! Sorry! Next year we're doubling the size of our kitchen with an excavation - very exciting! :) Should give us... More

The staff at the Dictionary aren't mean, but they are pretty incompetent. I booked 3 beds a couple weeks in advance, and they only actually reserved two beds. One of the receptionists did point me in the direction of a cheap hotel instead. On the return leg of our trip, we came back thru London, so we did actually stay... More

Hi. Thanks for your review! Sorry to hear about your problems. :( We have a team of 8 cleaners who clean the hostel from top to bottom each day, but I will pass on your comments to the head cleaner. When I booked my stay at this hostel I was very excited. The area (Shoreditch) is THE BEST NIGHT SPOT IN LONDON! Well, pretty much. It is full of bars, clubs, cafes and restaurants. The designer clothes shops are great also. Well worth staying here just to see Shoredich. It is also close to Old Street, Bethnal Green, and Dalston... More

Thanks for your review! We love to get your feedback. We are so glad you loved the location. It's great, isn't it? It can get a bit noisy being in such a good location for nightlife though, you're right! Check in was a joke. Took 45 mins. The reception area could be confused with a rehab centre. There were mouse catch boxes in the room. Room was dirty. Beds poor quality. Wow, I'm sorry you seem to have had such a bad experience with us!
