On our third trip to London we discovered the most charming place to stay. The Main House was a perfect "home away from home" while we explored the city. We enjoyed chatting with Caroline and took her advice and did the "Palace to Palace Perambulation" when we arrived. The quaint and charming house is filled with comfortable antiques and is... More

The Main House, an excelent place to stay for some days in the beautiful and quiet district of Notting Hill. We stayed in the beautiful French Suite, in the top floor of this typical Victorian House, very confortable and cosy, decorated with very good taste ( one bedroom and a living room, with tea and coffe available at any time)... The Main House is a wonderful home away from home. I've stayed there twice now (both times in the first floor suite) and I had a great time on both trips. It's perfectly situated in Notting Hill, around the corner from The Ledbury, an amazing restaurant, and Granger & Co. (ideal for breakfast), and a very short distance from Portobello... More

The Main House is a real gem. A lovely place. Upscale but not the slightest bit stuffy. Comfortable, private and cozy. Perfectly situated in yummy Ladbroke Grove -- in the middle of so much good stuff and still very quiet. Friendly, attentive and personal service. I had wanted to stay here for years, so much so that I was a... More

This was the perfect home base for a trip to London. The room was incredible and filled with beautiful antiques and furnishings. I really was loathe to leave! Caroline was a great host - very warm and welcoming. Its location is prime - minutes from wonderful shops and restaurants, and easy access to public transportation. I will definitely stay here... We really enjoyed our stay at The Main House. The rooms were very spacious, but nevertheless very cozy. The location is a 30 second walk from Portobello Road/Market but it is still very quiet in the evening. We will definitely stay at The Main House again, and have recommended it to all our friends! Thank you for the lovely stay.

You won't find a better place to stay in London. The Main House it's a wonderful little b&b where you feel just like being in your own house. We stayed for a week in the French Suite, on the top floor, where we had a lovely bedroom and an amazing drawing room (big & comfortable). Caroline is a wonderful manager,... More

We certainly did enjoy our stay in London - what a beautiful old city with so much to see and do. We were very fortunate to have found the Main House for our accommodation, it was clean, comfortable, spacious, safe and well-situated for access to interesting shops, pubs and restaurants - and just a five minute walk to "the tube".... I have been to London several times now and absolutely adore staying at The Main House. Nestled away in Notting Hill, it is just a stone's throw away from Portobello Road, lined with its bustling shops, ambitious vendors, and spectators from around the globe. For your convenience the night bus stops a block from The Main House's front doorstep, there... More

Located in Knotting Hill, a most central location in London, Caroline was the perfect hostess. She arranged for a driver to meet us at the Euro-Star. The cost was less than a cab and our driver was most helpful assisting us out of the train station and on to The Main House with Caroline waiting out in front. The Main... More

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighborhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
