Stayed for a second time in the smallest room (0 aka backpacker). Really very little different to my precious review (rooms clean, beds comfy) but I think the public areas could do with a bit of redecoration: they seemed a trifle tired this time around. I do like the place though and the location and price is excellent.

We took over the whole hotel in November 2011 for a wedding; a mixture of friends and family. Overall, the experience was overwhelmingly positive. The roof terrace offered excellent views across London on Bonfire Weekend with all the fireworks. It is set right in the heart of the Portobello Market, surrounded by pretty shops, market stalls and musicians. My review... More

We had booked for the one evening of July 1st and were really excited by the description on their website. The reality was a very different senario - ALL accommodation was advertised as having a shower facility and the maisonette was described as a dining experience not to be missed! At £180 for the night it was a rip-off! We... More

Hotel is more of a guesthouse than hotel. There is around 6 rooms alltogether, all tiny. Our room was more like a cabin - 2 beds in different levels (beds were not 2 m long, so if you are a tall person, forget it) and the shower - toilet was a cabin, no real shower corner but you showered at... I arrived and was told that there was no record of my booking, I showed email confirmation that I had booked, was offered - bridal suite (and would look into discount as it was nearly 2x the price of the room I had booked) I stated I would only take if it was at the price of the room I... More

The staff were great, but the rooms were a little old. There was a mixup with our booking but they were able to still give us a room. The rooms were a little tired, we were upgraded and still the room was nothing to write home about.

I stayed for 3 nights, firstly for business [free WiFi access was great] but the main reason for this stay was a gathering of family and friends as we no longer live in London. On the last night the rest of the party arrived, a mixed age group hen party [age 24 -60] of ten people. The location was perfect... More

I have been to the Gold once before, but on this trip I noticed new paint and carpet in the room. The maid service is efficient and excellent. Yes, some of the rooms are small, but their website is very clear about no "cat-swinging." The restaurant, located just behind the lively pub, may just be the best part of the... More
