Location was out of the way, but right beside a tube station. Felt like I was annoying the staff, and the breakfast in the morning was terrible. The beds were comfy and had outlets beside each bed, but the showers/toilets in the hall were TERRIBLE. The showers only had one temperature and only lasted 10 seconds at a time, so... More

Nice place for the price we paid for. Clean and big rooms. The breakfast is not 5 stars, but as it is free you can't complain. And the staff is very friendly and the location is perfect. The only down side it that there is only one shower room per floor and the pub downstairs was very noise as our... More

I stayed here for two nights, and had an okay time. The rooms were reasonably quiet, allowing for a reasonable amount of rest. The heater, however, was pumped to the max (also on the second day, after I had mentioned this to the staff). The kitchen was used primarily by the staff, who lingered around there. The showers however are... More

I came to stay at Dover Castle with 11 friends and rented out the whole dorm, working out at about £10 each. For a Saturday night in London this is unbelievably good value! Rooms and facilities were clean, and a basic breakfast was provided. I found it to be reasonably quiet, and very close to Borough tube station. Staff were... More

I spent three nights at Dover Castle Hostel (Sunday-Wednesday) in February in a 12-mixed room. Definitely was a down time as I had only 1-3 roommates each night. Everyone was friendly, you get what you pay for. Good for students traveling to London just needing a place to spend the night. Great location off of Borough underground stop makes traveling... Had a great time staying here, they have a nice kitchen area, are really close to the tube and all of downtown London, and have internet that actually works. Really appreciated all of Carla's help at reception. Every hostel should have someone this competent and friendly working there. Other positives include a fun bar downstairs (with the best drink prices... More

If you are backpacking through Europe or just looking for a cheap and comfortable place to stay while you visit London, the Dover Castle will definitely satisfy all your needs. Besides more than acceptable rooms and showers the Dover Castle offers great services like a kitchen and lockets, plus a friendly and competent team. Not to forget that they got... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
