We stayed at Devonport House in July 2015 for 3 nights, breaking our journey back from Marrakech to spend a few days with our son who lives nearby. The hotel fits lovely with the local architecture and historic setting and is so handy to visit the attractions of Greenwich; The Cutty Sark, Observatory, Parks and Market. Although the room was... Second time here. Good points are location, reasonably spacious rooms and somewhat cheaper that central London. However, despite booking in advance and having all the paperwork, the employee in reception was insistent that we had to pay the amount shown on 'her screen' which was £200 more! She also told us that a manager was not available and there was... More

Dear casandal, Thank you very much for your review. I am very sorry to read about your bad start, which clearly overshadowed your stay. I have addressed this matter with the relevant Manager, as this is absolutely not acceptable behavior from the front desk and can not happen. It set the wrong tone for your time away. Kind regards, Tim Gehrke More

Stayed here for a family wedding, the setting was lovely and the wedding room delightful. Yes it is an old building but that just adds to the character. After the ceremony we all gathered in the courtyard where there were canapés being served along with crisp type snacks for which there were plenty. The hotel is central for exploring London... More

Lovely location for us and the property reflects the architecture of the area Quick and easy check in; directions to room clear. Our room was clean and ample space for two; bathroom decent size with plenty of towels; Lots of storage space. I can understand that the hotel cannot add air-con for our rare hot summer nights due to planning... More

Went for a wedding and stayed the night. Have to say the wedding set up was lovely and the grounds for photographs and drinks were lovely. Staff were great but we didn't see any canapés - they missed a lot of people out. Bedrooms noisy, tight, thin walls, litter on the floor of room on arrival, keys stopped working more... More

Dear EllieExplore, Thank you very much for your feedback. I am sorry we did not live up to your expectations for your stay. I will speak to our Reception Team about the impact their attitude makes on guests as clearly was the case here. We booked an exective room, as we were attending a wedding, so great excitement but room was small, no storage for clothers, small wardrobe no drawers, had to lay out clothers on a table, not good. Mention lack of storage to reception staff, eyes to heaven and a reply of -well none of our rooms have drawers, not what you... More

Busy, compact Hotel next to Observation and Royal NAvy museum, great spot, good parking and easy access to O2 via thames clipper, clipper runs late to get you back after concerts. Bit pricey for what you get, average rooms, but clean and tidy. Can be noisy if you get a room overlooking admin store below. Breakfasts are good, but we normally... More

Getting pretty tired and old. Rooms need upgrading. Take pot luck on the size of your room - very small or small. No air conditioning, fans are useless. Very stuffy hotel. Bar is OK, although the staff are not well trained. Convenient location to stay in Greenwich, close to park and observatory but otherwise we cannot see too many advantages.... More

Dear Andrew H, Thank you very much for your feedback. I am sorry we did not impress you with our Grade 1 listed building. Sadly we are not a new purpose build hotel, but operate a characteristic old building. Kind regards, Tim Gehrke More

Staying in Greenwich

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich
Greenwich Mean Time starts here, so to speak, as the very concept of global time was established at Royal Observatory, just one of several buildings of architectural interest in Greenwich. Indeed, the whole of Greenwich's historic town center, its Royal Park and a number of related buildings (and one world famous ship, the Cutty Sark) make up the UNESCO World Heritage site known as Maritime Greenwich. Today a laser beam is shot out across the night sky from the Observatory to mark the location of the Prime Meridian. Other bold (some say brash) 21st century additions to the area include landmarks such as The O2 entertainment complex (previously known as the Millennium Dome) and the Air Line cable cars, which offer scenic transport across the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks.
