I was not in a refurbished room and, while the room was comfortable enough, the decor was tired looking and carpet threadbare in one or two places. Main wall was cluttered with mirror and fairly unattractive pictures, two of which were squint and couldn't be straightened. It's amazing how irritating squint pictures get after a couple of days! Great shower... More

The staff here are so friendly and make all the difference to your stay. The rooms have been refurbished and have the most comfortable beds. The food is good and it is reasonably priced. There is room service, a restaurant and also bar food.

Dear Nicola, thank you for taking the time to share with the tripadvisor community your experience at the hotel. It is particularly nice to see that it was the staff that made the difference, as a building, no matter how great, is just a building without the right people. Thank you again. Kind regards Chris Kerr General Manager More

We were greeted very warmly by the reception staff on arrival and told we had been given a complimentary upgrade to a roof top terrace room which was fabulous. The staff at the hotel were all excellent at their jobs and the breakfast each day was also very good with so much choice you could eat enough to last you... More

Dear Linda, what a delightful review. I am especially glad to read that you recognised the staff and the service they provided throughout your stay, I will be sure to pass these kind words onto the team. Furthermore it is good to see that you made the most of the breakfast offer which allows for both a cooked breakfast made... More

The hotel is close to tower hill, on the east side of the City but it is a short walk to the Tower Hill and Aldgate tube stations. The hotel lobby and attached bar felt like a turn of the century throwback--which it is. The rooms however were modern, well appointed, and very clean. Service was quite good and quite... More

Dear Mikodad, it is lovely to read that you felt that one of the strengths of the site was that it did not reflect a large corporate chain and was far more personal. Likewise I'm delighted to read that you found the bedroom modern, even if the reception area had a "throw back" feel, something which we are looking to... More

Good quality hotel in the city. My room was decent, the bed was very comfortable and the furnishings were better than I expected having thought that the reception was a little bit shabby. The only downside was that the windows were tiny so very little daylight. I had the breakfast downstairs one day which was good and the room service... More

Dear RoseL5000, thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I must offer particular thanks to the information regarding the inconsistency of breakfast when ordering to the room instead of the restaurant. This level of detail is invaluable when we look at areas to improve. Thank you once again and I hope we can welcome you back... More

Lovely little hotel in a great location. Just 2 mins from Tower Bridge. Take the tube to Aldgate station and it's just round the corner. Lovely rooms, we had a standard double, nice room, comfy bed, fridge, etc. Nice and quiet, you could hear the gentle rumble of the underground on the first floor, where we were, but I always... Dear reviewer, this is a great review to read as it not only praises the hotel but also provides some constructive feedback that we can take away and continue to improve our product on the back of. I am particularly glad to read your comments regarding the breakfast team and will pass on these kind words. I do hope we... More

On arrival, the hotel looks like a pub but don't let that put you off. On entry, there is a more homely feel than you get from one of the big chain hotels. The receptionist was ok, not particularly cheerful and couldn't explain why some rooms were ready and others were not. It was no big deal though because as... More

Dear Nicola, thank you for your "hidden gem" review, it suggests the hotel exceeded your expectations which is great to see. I am a little disappointed to read that the receptionist was a little unfriendly and could not clearly explain why some of the rooms were available for check in and others were not. Nevertheless it appears you enjoyed your... More

Nice hotel in a good location near Tower of London. It was little bit expensive so I stayed only one night. I stayed in the 4th floor and the room was good and spacious enough. Bed was comfortable and bathroom felt quite luxurious too. The check-in and check-out were quick and the staff were friendly. I have only one little... More

We stayed at the Chamberlain for 2 nights with two other couples. This hotel is not one of the big chain types which can be very impersonal and very expensive. We arrived early just to drop our bags but our rooms were ready which was a bonus. The front desk chap (sorry I didn't catch your name) was very helpful... More

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
