I had a single room, which was small, the bathroom was bigger, but it really didn't matter. The room did get hot at night, but certainly didn't affect me too much. Location is brilliant. Can be in the tube station within 30 seconds of leaving the hotel, but also walking to Covent Garden/Leicester Square/Piccadilly Circus. Staff were excellent, great hotel.

Our room was down in the basement and facing the street, and we could hear people walking by at all times. We picked this hotel because it's close to Kings Cross Station and St. Pancras Station. There were three rooms at our end and every time someone got in or out of the other two rooms, we could hear it.... More

The pros: located near Kings Cross station- easy access to the underground, clean, free breakfast (although mediocre), friendly staff The cons: very small rooms, minimal storage areas, one of the two rooms was extremely warm, one of the rooms has a broken toilet seat and shower fixture

Our room was really quite quirky, 4 stairs down off the corridor and then 4 stairs up into the room. The bed was across the end of the room and reminded of us a caravan from years past. Breakfast was ok I am very disappointed that I have emailed the hotel with a serious security issue and after a week... More

Amazed how accommodative & very helpful their staff were. Starting from the reservation process until we stayed on their hotel. We were 2 ladies on holiday, so we were looking for a decent place to stay around safe neighborhood. The California seems to be perfect to our needs. They served good breakfast too. Superb location for Kings Cross / St... More

Gor the price we paid we expected more than a cupboard to sleep in. I know that rooms in UK are often smaller thanw e are used to.....but seriously we walked up a couple of steps and through a door and up a couple more steps to find the door which opened outwards so we were not able to fit... We booked a room at the California via the Hotel Tonight app the day before we arrived for 138 USD (taxes/fees included). The hotel is steps away from Kings Cross/St. Pancras, which is why we booked it, and while our room wasn't lux, it was clean and pretty modern. The bathroom was clean as well and the shower was hot... More

I stayed at the California with a friend for 2 nights. The location is great, but the rooms are tiny at quite a high price. The twin room was very clean and nicely decorated, however I didn't like the glass door to the bathroom - no privacy at all! Breakfast was ok, nothing special. All the staff were helpful and... This may have been the most Spartan lodging for the price that I have experienced. The grim room was tiny and had NO A/C. It did, however, have a small fan (LOL). To add additional insult, there was no hot water the morning. We were offered a small apology by the clerk upon checkout (but no compensation). Sorry I cannot... More

The location of this hotel is the best thing about it. Literally a 30 second walk to the tube which is Kings Cross. Kings Cross gives you access to multiple tube lines which is very handy. My room was very small (not a complaint, just an observation) which was all I needed for my two night stay. Everything in my... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
