I stayed here on business and was given a room on the top floor of the hotel in a wing where there was no lift. The room was hotter than the face of the sun and there is no way in the room of adjusting the heat and there was no air conditioning, so had to have the window open,... More

I was able to spend a night in London on a spur of the moment trip. The California had a good location near a major underground stop, was clean, and included a full breakfast. They even got gluten free bread for my daughter. Only complaint is the lack of towel racks in the bathroom.

I used this hotel as a base for 2 nights as my sister was getting married in the area. The staff are very kind and the little bar area fun and inviting. Our room was small but very clean with a good sized en suite. Comfy beds! The breakfast could be better but given the prices, you can't really moan.... More

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the end of December due to its proximity to the tube station. Firstly the pros - Great little hotel, breakfast great served from 7-10am, close to tube, friendly staff, room spacious and clean, good free wifi. Secondly the cons - We were in room 101, a triple room in the basement. Room... More

My friends and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. We were 5 in the same room. We each had our own bed, which were all very comfortable. The room had been redesigned recently and was very nice and clean. Staff was nice. The breakfast was not excellent, but correct enough. Free wifi as well. Very close to King's Cross... More

This was for one night so that I could cross the road to kings Cross the next morning. My single room was windowless in the basement area a bit of a worry to get out if there was fire because you had to navigate a series of corridors. I got lost a couple of times. My room was clean with... More

Our room was quiet because it wasn't near any of the many fire doors that make a racket when closing. So my tip would be to make sure you ask for a room that will be quiet when you try to sleep. Enjoy the free drink you are offered. The bar has interesting products on offer. Breakfast at weekend is... More

A theatre trip with my daughters meant all 3 of us coming on different trains so it was important that we found a hotel near our stations where we could leave our luggage on the day we arrived and the following day before our train so this was perfect for that. We were given a newly decorated triple room on... More

We have just returned from a very pleasant at The California. The Hotel is just like they detail on the website, which is not always the case. The rooms are a little on the small side, but are well equipped and are more than sufficient for a short stay. The location is a big plus. It is only a ten... More

Good value hotel conveniently close to Kings Cross station. Nicely refurbished with a 1930's art deco feel. Good sized bedroom on the top floor, clean, well furnished with a comfortable bed. BUT, I can't understand why the owners feel that a very thin blind would darken the room at night sufficiently to enable a good sleep, especially when the hotel... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
