This hotel has a lovely, boutique look and feel. Whilst my small double room was quite basic in regards to frills it was never the less clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. Other reviews mentioned the lack of air on and my top floor room was very warm but here was a rotating standing fan stored in the wardrobe... More

The hotel had good rooms and an exelent location, but when the there was no hot water due to a fawly boiler, they had no consept of service. Manuel i Fawlty Towers had a better understanding of customer service. The bar at the hotel is close to non exixting.

Even though some of the reviews on this site said that the rooms were small and stuffy/hot, we booked here anyway. And yes, the rooms are small, but we didn't find ours uncomfortably warm. We had a room for three so it was probably a bit bigger than most, and although small, it was comfortable. The room and the bathroom... More

In the olden days, mid 1980s, we stayed often at the the California because it was cheap and close to British Library (then in British Museum) - not very elegant (small rooms!) then, but we enjoyed talking to the young owners and found everything quite ok, if a bit iffy with respect to cleaning etc. Today the California has become... This is a lovely hotel, could be called quirkey, but nice and in a great location. Nice staff, but oh my God how hot was the room. OK it was a hot day, but lying on the bed sweating Cobb's........even the fan had no effect. The windows were so small as to be useless. Why oh why when they have spent... More

Stayed here for the second time in June 2015. Hotel in excellent location - just around the corner from St Pancras and Kings Cross stations. Easy to reach all parts of London by bus or tube. Our room was very chic and modern on the ground floor (as requested due to hubby recent knee op) the staff are very efficient... More

I stayed in The California Hotel for one night for a mother and daughter trip to London. The hotel is located right across from the station and was very easy to find. We arrived before check in the hotel kindly looked after our bags, we arrived back at the hotel around 11pm after a day of shopping and shows, the... More

The staff are warm and friendly and the location could not be better if you are travelling to or from Kings Cross but the rooms are not great for the price - not even equipped with a glass for water let alone any kind of hot drink! I stayed on a warm day and it was cooler outside than in... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
