Stayed at this hotel last week on business courtesy of my companies Hotel Booking Service. As I was only staying overnight, I was happy with the small twin room I was given (Room 202) which faced the main road. The stairwell was bit narrow but with an overnight bag was no hassle. The room was well decorated and supplied, the bed... More

On entering the California I was charmed by the quirky decor and the friendly helpfulness of the person on reception. My room was very clean and the style was interesting and unique. Unfortunately I slept very badly, I could hear everything in the corridors and neighbouring rooms. Every sneeze and dropped hair brush was more than audible and the bed... More

Stayed in this hotel last week, staff were friendly and helpful, but the room was small and extremely hot, had to sleep with the window open all night. The main concern I have is I was covered in bites a day later, obviously from sleeping in the bed so beware. Gary S

We wanted somewhere handy for Kings Cross railway station and also for Islington, and this was a great choice, right opposite Kings Cross. Young and very friendly & helpful staff - we met 4 or 5 over the two days, and they were all excellent. Décor is interesting too - reception desk is made of old suitcases, there's an art... More

We needed a hotel quickly, 2/3 hours before we needed to check-in. Found this on a booking website and it was good for what we wanted quickly. It's not the best but it doesn't pretend to be. The rooms are up different staircases so be careful to hear the receptionist tell you which one to go up. Room was ok.... More

I stayed here with my sisters and we were fine that there is no elevator even though our suitcases were very heavy and our room couldn't be any further away we were in 905 on the top floor. That was fine with us seeing as a lot of hotels in England are old and cannot accommodate an elevator. However what... More

Only two minutes from the rail and underground stations. Super value and a welcome drink on arrival. Not many of London's small hotels have a bar onsite - great to recap and enjoy a night cap. Breakfast included and was enough to skip lunch! It's a common style of budget accommodation with pokey basement corridors but the rooms were very... More

Stayed here overnight. Middle aged woman with an NHS budget allowance . Booked this hotel because it fell, within my budget allowance. Great place! Very trendy. Room small as expected in central London. But very clean, cool decor and a really decent shower. Nice staff. Would stay here again.

As a singleton, I stayed for one night as a bit of layover to continue my journey. It's right across the street from St. Pancras and King's Cross so a breeze to get to from Heathrow. I stayed in a little single room on the lower floor - very clean, very chic, very well kept. The breakfast offered a lot... More

Stayed at The California for 2 nights last weekend with my husband and 2 teenage daughters, i thought it was a lovely hotel, great location and an enormous family room. Breakfast was lovely. No complaints from my family.

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
