In the olden days, mid 1980s, we stayed often at the the California because it was cheap and close to British Library (then in British Museum) - not very elegant (small rooms!) then, but we enjoyed talking to the young owners and found everything quite ok, if a bit iffy with respect to cleaning etc. Today the California has become... This is a lovely hotel, could be called quirkey, but nice and in a great location. Nice staff, but oh my God how hot was the room. OK it was a hot day, but lying on the bed sweating Cobb's........even the fan had no effect. The windows were so small as to be useless. Why oh why when they have spent... More

Stayed here for the second time in June 2015. Hotel in excellent location - just around the corner from St Pancras and Kings Cross stations. Easy to reach all parts of London by bus or tube. Our room was very chic and modern on the ground floor (as requested due to hubby recent knee op) the staff are very efficient... More

A cosy Hotel, friendly staff, good Englisch Breakfast. We stayed in the familieroom in the basement! Metro and train around the corner, rooms are recently re-styled, we also stayed there 6 and 12 years ago, shop untill you drop in London.

We went here and it was a very modern room very flash and in a very good location we were right next to kings cross so we were able to travel very easily at didn't have to walk far at all to the train station. The rooms were perfect to fit just the two of us in and it had... More

I stayed in The California Hotel for one night for a mother and daughter trip to London. The hotel is located right across from the station and was very easy to find. We arrived before check in the hotel kindly looked after our bags, we arrived back at the hotel around 11pm after a day of shopping and shows, the... More

The staff are warm and friendly and the location could not be better if you are travelling to or from Kings Cross but the rooms are not great for the price - not even equipped with a glass for water let alone any kind of hot drink! I stayed on a warm day and it was cooler outside than in... More

Lovely quirky hotel in great location for getting around but the downside of this is its very busy and extremely noisy through the night. Especially weekends. Rooms nice but small and need soundproofing ! Air conditioning would've been lovely too. But all in all great value for money. Staff friendly and helpful. Great breakfasts.

Room was SO small and hot, miserable stay. Staff very nice, breakfast so so. Horrified to think tourists believe the British find this acceptable at the price. We were off on holiday from St Pancras and can only say position was good. The plastic mattress covers are terrible and husband just lay and sweated for 2 nights. Not good. Modern... More

We stayed in room 5 and like many others we were also getting Euro Star the next day. Its location is great, our room was in the basement, and it did feel somewhat claustrophobic, but then again you don't usually go to London to stay in all night. But having said that, we had a great nights sleep. There is... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
