We booked into The Lancaster but were moved across the road to the Portland(part of the same chain) I was not suprised by this as a friend had a similar experience with the Grange chain previously. We had been upgraded and I must say had a fabulous room. A very large room with a seating area, very roomy bathroom and... More

A well-appointed and comfortable hotel. Fairly expensive, though. We were lucky to get a room for 4 nights having booked a place across the road, which turned out to be a filthy dump. Bedford Place is in a pleasant part of London and so convenient for tubes, buses and taxis, as well as for walking. We initially used the Hop... More

Stayed in a single room with a kitchenette for 6 nights during July/Aug 2011. The hotel had some bad reviews here, so was a bit nervous. I didn't have to though, as this was a real little gem, which made me, a single female traveller feel at home and completely safe. The location is great. Only 5 mins walk from... More

Was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Its in a great location almost next door to the British Museum and a short walk to Soho, Covent Garden and Oxford Street. The room was very spacious and had good decor. It was much bigger than the usual london hotel rooms. I highly recommend this Hotel and the other sister hotels on... More

2nd hotel in this chain I've stayed in. Great position for sight seeing/ West End. Room was spacious and clean. Great building (old town house). Big complaint for me was noise. The full length, sash, wood windows are beautiful, but hopeless at keeping street noise out. Loud motorcycle outside after midnight. and other occassional vehicles kept me awake. Then the... More

I had not stayed in London for a while so I don't know how it compares to other hotels in terms of price, but frankly this is really not a 4* hotel. The first night I was placed in a ground floor room and as a single woman I did not like that. The windows were old and didnt look... More

I had as usual read qiute a few reviews here, and other places, and booked a Deluxe Studio here for 4 days. Early on the morning the day before we were to leave for London last week, I called them up just to check what the situation was regarding the possible ash-sky that might close UK airspace. I called them... More

Caught in London in the middle of the volcanic ash crisis I checked in this hotel on Monday evening. The following day I decided to extend my stay by another night. In view that the demand on London hotel rooms was increasing sharply, the hotel management decided to charge me more for this second night. As things turned out I... More

Booked this Hotel on line but when arrived we were sent next door to sister hotel. Having read all reviews and finally chose the Portland, I was a little concerned to be sent to another. I am unable to review for this reason, but have reviewed The Clarendon which was very good.

On reading the reviews AFTER I had spent three nights, four days in the Portland Hotel I can only assume that I was in the wrong hotel. I went with my daughter of 10 and stayed in room 204. We arrived about 8.30pm Friday night, threw cases in room and went for a very long walk. Upon returning realised just... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
