In fairness, we were upgraded to a larger room (almost a junior suite) on arrival so that increased my opinion of this boutique hotel. It is a classic London hotel with helpful, friendly staff, a tasty breakfast (included in our rate), and it is clean and quaint. I know the regular rooms are small as some of our friends stayed... I can only presume that I got upgraded on arrival. Nothing was said at check-in, but I ended up with a very large room (203) at the front of the building. The room itself was really very nice. Big bed (two singles joined together with a king-sized mattress on top). In addition, there was a separate seating area (adjacent to... More

Myself a friend stayed here on 28 Feb 14 after being upgraded from The Lancaster - their sister hotel. We had originally booked The Lancaster for a twin room but with a shared bathroom. When we arrived we got told we were being upgraded to The Portland hotel with our own bathroom & we were not disappointed. Smart & welcoming... More

This hotel which was a converted dwelling house or 2 is well equipped.Service is excellent and the only problem I had was there is no in house dining facilities you have to walk about 100 yards to get breakfast in a sister hotel.having said that breakfast was excellent with really great service.I had to get a room change as my... I was upgraded to a bigger room on arrival and it was very large, with a big sofa and was generally very, very nice. Whenever I have stayed at the Portland I have had a mini kitchen and although this seems odd in relation to the grand room, it is really handy. The room was very clean and tidy and... More

The hotel is really nice! I stayed there for just one night in september 2013. It has a huge bed, good decoration, and great attention from the people who worked at the hotel. Breakfast was also fine! The only problem we had was that there was no air conditioner in the room, even though we had a premium room. We... More

I agree with the comment in August that "This is a generic large hotel cut up into smaller sections to feign "boutique" status. ". You have to walk down the road to a neighbouring hotel for breakfast - not a good idea in the rain. And whilst my room was comfortable, when I made coffee in the room, the milk... More

We were satisfied wih the hotel on the whole. It is in a grest location and close to many restaurants. The staff is pretty helpful but some did not speak or understand English very well, so we had a difficult time geting directions to places we wanted to go. The room was clean, the bed comortble, but the furniture, especially sofa,... More

Stayed here previously and thought it was ok, this time for 1 night and arrived in the evening tired and ready to retire early for the night and watch some tv. The room was on the small side and just outside the lift on the 2nd floor. The tv had only 5 basic channels and the remote didn't work. Relatively... More
