I was advised to reserve a table for dinner at Gate as it is very popular and rarely has s spare seat. We arrived and were seated by the window. The staff were cheerful and professional. We ordered starters and main courses. I started with a mezze of various hummus dishes and leaves followed by a vegi rosti with a... More

if you don't ask the lazy lady for toiletress and towels they will not provide it.We were there and we doubt if they change the beddings because there still hairs in the bed when we open the bed cover. They will not care to clean the room. Its far from the city of London and we really regreted why we chose this... The location is good. The rooms are correct but the staff is unfriendly and does not care about their customers. You feel like you are not welcome.Maybe they don't like spanish people because if that is their normal habits the owner must change the receptionists.

The three bed bedroom was digusting. The carpet had not been vacuumed and the carpets were stained really badly, body fluid stains is what came to mind when looking at them. The kettle in the room was dirty and I wouldn't touch it in case someone had boiled their used socks in it. The shower was blocked. Something in the... More

I have travelled around the world, and can say with certainty this is one of the worst hotels at which I've stayed. The reception was unfriendly and made me nervous when I walked in the door because they just stood and stared at me from a distance without greeting me. This staff was also very unprofessional the next morning when... More

hi, I have stayed a few times at the Gate and returned there for a 4th time earlier this year with my girlfriend. It was unfortunately a terrible experie3nce. The room was dirty, and my girlfriend got a bacterial infection from drinking from the tea cups in the room. She was throwing up and sick all night. It was awful.... More

This is a tiny hotel but well located and relativly peaceful. The rooms are obviously small but superior rooms are well decorated and large enough for a short stay in London. Bathrooms are not breathtaking but in phase with an hotel of this standing (shower only). Nice welcome and friendly service. Breakfeast (continental) is served only in your room as... More

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighborhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
