The location is great, very close to the most important places of the city in a quiet neighborhood. allthough I read that Lambeth north wasn't a safe place, it is. It's one block away from a police station, so don't worry. I walked it several times during the night and it's not bad at all. The facilities are quite comfortable.... More

The hostel is near the tube, clean, nice staff and has a 24 hour bar! Not sure what breakfast is like because I didn't get up in time, but it is good value for money. If I go back to London I would be more than happy to stay here again.

I stayed at the Steam Engine for 4 nights. Outside the building was so cosy, and inside in the bar/reception to. The room was small and I could not sit straight in the bunkbed, but what to expect in a hostel? It's a part of the experience! :) I slept well and the other guests was nice. The staff was... More

Just if you want to stay in the budget or have to catch a plane the day after. Few rooms (and this is good), too many people in the same room (and this is bad) but also just few bathrooms (and this is too bad). Be ready to wake up early as from the window you can hear all the... More

Since it was my first time staying in a hostel, I was kind of hesitant upon arriving to London and booking at the Steam Engine. With that aside, I could not have asked for a better 5 night experience. We arrived before we were able to check in, but that wasn't a problem as they had a place you could... More

We visited The Steam Engine for the pub - we were staying around the corner at the Days Hotel, but saw this pub and figured we'd visit - husband lived in London for a year and always likes to try local pubs. We had our sons with us, so they were very happy with the pizza. (BTW, one pizza will... More

I stayed there in december 2012 with my friends, it was the first time I stayed in a hostel and i loved it. The 12-bed bedroom is small and there are few space between your bed and the bed above yours, but is very clean and the mattress is good. There are a pub very nice and tipical, you can... More

I just completed a 5 night stay at The Steam Engine and would highly recommend it. The building itself was adorable - bar (with also served pizza) downstairs and sleeping area upstairs. The staff is great - they even got us checked in early the day we arrived since we were dead on our feet so we could sleep. Location... More

My friend and I had a short stay at the Steam Engine before starting our tour, but it was very pleasant. The room had several bunk beds (I took the middle bunk), but they were clean and occupied by other Canadians as well (surprisingly). I did not feel like my luggage was in any danger of being stolen as can... More

I stayed here for two nights and it was excellent! The people at the bar were very nice folks! The food that they make is great! I am a student on low budget so this option made a lot of sense. It is very closed to the London Eye. You can walk to Soho (bar/club area)! The bed situation is... More
