From entering the hotel to leaving we experienced an excellent standard of service. The room was amazing with a fabulous en-suite bathroom. It was ideally situated for commuting around the city and if you didn't know how to get to where you were going, the staff were more than willing to advise. I was there for a birthday treat and it... After a good search for a Romantic Hotel,i thought this was it, i was so dissappointed. When i looked on line,i did'nt like the dark wood of the beds,i wanted something bright and cheerful, and their where a few that looked just beautiful,so i asked the receptionest, which room was it and asked not to have any of the dark wooden beds,she... What can I say, I used to love this place and visited regularly in the days when it was known as 190. It fell out of favour for a while and whenever I visited it seemed like the staff were different and nobody every remembered me, the bar didn't seem to draw in the crowds like it used to and... We had a lovely one night stay at the Gore - choosing it because of its Victorian charm - and we were not disappointed. We had one of the cheaper rooms so it was compact, but strikingly decorated and with a small but perfectly formed (and spotless) shower-room. Well stocked mini bar and tea and coffee facilities. The public areas... More

A really nice hotel for our Valentine's weekend, staff were really attentive, great West London location, comfortable, good breakfast at an upgrade cost of only £1! The only problem was no cold water in room 506 on top floor when we arrived in the afternoon (the top floor water issue is mentioned in other reviews)! We were promised it would... More

Spent an extended time in the Gore(13 days) visiting children in the area. Every morning started off with a great breakfast in the small but well run dining room. Hotel staff was ever present and always helpful with a smile. Very close to The Royal Albert Hall which keep the dinning room and the bar hopping nightly. We were in... More

Stayed for one night on New Years Eve in a top floor room. Reception efficient, room impressively large (for London) and decorated wonderfully. Loved the books from 1890-1930 on the shelf! Good temp and comfy bed. Nice big bathroom but we had some issues with water pressure which was a bit annoying. Also beware that if you have noisy neighbours... More

We had the pleasure of staying at The Gore in July 2010. The location is in a quiet area near Kensington Palace and Royal Albert Hall. The room was clean, bathroom was spotless. The staff was very gracious and helpful. The dining experience was superb. The chef was kind enough to share a recipe for a particular dish that I... More

Staying in South Kensington

Neighborhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
