This Holiday Inn Express is expensive for what it is. However, it is near South Bank in London, which is an excellent location. The hotel is very basic, clean and functional, but the whole place smells like a hospital for some reason. Breakfast has sausages, eggs beans, a selection of cereals, and croissants, plus tea, coffee and juices. It is... More

The HIE in London Southwark is relatively new and sits just 2 blocks from a tube station. Clean rooms although small by U.S. standards, free breakfast and great staff at the desk. And the best part, the A/C works! And we needed it. London can get very hot in the summer but our day of arrival set a record. All... More

The place is decent, rooms are clean and spacious. The only thing we did not like about is the glasses.. It smelled like cockroach walked over it.. There was a time that i have to pour hot water over the glass for the juice because we could really smell it.. Breakfast is very limited, we were expecting like it will... More

We had several issues with the front desk staff. I understand that a number of them were new to the hotel, but when we tried to place a room service order, the guest service agent who answered the telephone just said, "We don't have room service" and hung up the phone. There's a menu in each of the guest rooms,... More

We had to book last minute so was a bit apprehensive. When we arrived the two guys on reception were really friendly and helpful, even ringing a restaurant we had booked to say we would be late due to horrendous traffic. Room was larger than I expected, clean and with a comfey bed. Bathroom clean too with good shower. Very... More

This hotel is ideal for short business stays or for overnighting in London. The bar is small but has a reasonable choice. The hotel offers room service after five and has a wide selection of dishes. The staff are friendly and helpful, always a good sign. The only drawback is the hot selection for breakfast.... No bacon is served.... There... More

I have written over 175 reviews on TripAdvisor and believe in the power of feedback. I hope you find my review helpful. I booked the Holiday in for 2 weeks in July 2015 using Hotwire. I didn't know which hotel I would get using Hotwire, but I selected the neighborhood and star level and was able to book this property... More

This hotel has everything necessary for a short break or business travel. The room was comfortable and quiet, the buffet breakfast was adequate. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is walking distance to Tate Modern, The Globe, Borough market, HMS Belfast and numerous pubs and restaurants along the south bank, and within reach of Southwark tube station.

I stayed for one night recently, using a combination of IHG points and cash. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful - even if they're not that familiar with local restaurants. My room was a good size for a London hotel, well appointed and comfortable. The bathroom was good, with a big shower. There were no drawers to... More

Summary: Rooms in the new half brilliant, old half are adequate but avoid the lift area. Breakfast is again adequate. Staff really good and the trainees were also helpful! Working in London is never going to be something I enjoy and after the first night in this hotel it wasn't looking good. Let's start with location, brilliant for where I... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
