If you want a very personal experience try the Atheneum. I have stayed a couple of times with consistently outstanding results. Rooms can be selected to include park views and it is a short walk to Buckingham palace. Staff are very helpful and remember your name. Nice touch!

My second stay at the Athenaeum, and what a fantastic experience. You are welcomed by name, the door man remembers your name and salutes you, the staff are friendly and professional, and the food superb. A fantastic experience. The high tea and whisky bar just add to the fine level this establishment has achieved and maintains. A delightful experience.

Stayed at the weekend for a birthday. One of the best if not the best hotels we've stayed in. The service is outstanding of every member of staff. Loved our room with a view over Green park. We went to the spa and the bar. This hotel is an excellent location. Few min walk from tube station. Would highly recommend

We stayed here last week while visiting London. The doorman (Jim) was the best. He remembered all of our names and we felt very welcome each time we saw him. The rooms were nice but the shower was my favorite. Incredible water pressure! I've stayed at a lot of hotels in the UK and I have to say this was... More

Any hotel that provides a (free) bottle of fresh milk in the mini-bar and hosts a complimentary weekly cocktail party for guests (on Wednesday evenings) gets my vote - that this is provided in a central London hotel impresses me even more. I loved The Athenaeum, from its uber-friendly staff to the home-from-home atmosphere. I was travelling solo and felt... More

This review is really about the restaurant but we are hoping to stay later in the year. Central London has a huge choice of restaurants, but if you are looking for somewhere that is stylish, relaxed, and reasonably priced, the restaurant at the Athenaeum Hotel is a must. From the outside in Piccadilly, the Athenaeum like all the buildings facing... More

We stayed here whilst visiting the shard and having dinner at Oblix. We arrived before 11am and were told that our room was out of the hotel and in another building. I decided to look at the allocated room but decided that I would prefer to stay in the main hotel. Without question they accommodated my request even though the... More

On arrival we got an upgrade to an amply proportioned room in the furthest of the four connected houses comprising the hotel. This plus the fact that the afternoon tea proved to be of good quality and was served in a pleasant tea lounge put us in a good mood. The room was fine, albeit a bit impersonal, and the... More

Stayed at the Athenauem again at the end of Feb for a London theatre trip (not a package) This hotel remains my favourite hotel in London - classy, discreet, excellent service always. When shown to our room - unfortunately it had not been serviced - the issue was sorted out immediately and seamlessly for us as customers/guests The restaurant is... More

The Athenaeum hotel is right in the middle of London. A lot of nice places are in walking distance. That's the reason we chose the hotel. Check-in was quick and a lady gave us a tour of the hotel and walked us to our room. The room was in a different building. We had to get out and use another... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
