I stayed here last weekend the reception & lounge were high quality as was the breakfast area. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the private rooms whilst they are clean they need to be redecorated, painted walls already flaky patches by windows there used be tv in room ariale socket there holes left in wall in room. It is more than 30 years since I first stayed at Carter Lane YHA, as it was then known. I have stayed several times over the years, flashing my gold life membership card. It is a few years since I was last here, but it was very convenient for the Stansted Express that my companions, a couple with pre-teen daughters,... More

This hostel is located in central London about 100 meters from St Paul's Cathedral and a short walk from the Millennium Bridge, the Tate, The Globe and much more. We stayed in a 4 bed family room and we had a great nights sleep and a good (all you can eat) breakfast that set us up for the day. The... More

This was very basic accommodation but it was somewhere to sleep and was in a good location. We had a 5 bed private room located near a share bathroom and it was okay but the beds were stacked up and all single, (one 3 stack, one 2 stack),the room smallish. Stairs to the first floor for us and for the... More

Myself and my daughter stayed in this hostel for one night. It was very comfortable, and everything was just right. It wasnt a five star hotel but it was clean, tidy, safe and had a good buzz around the place. All you can eat breakfast was extra but so well worth it. The only complaint about the place is the... Stayed here with a school group from Bolton as part of an overnight theatre and London experience. It WAS an experience, both positive and negative. The rooms were great for the children , however trying to sleep in a loer bunk was not ideal as an adult. Asked could I swap or change rooms and they said no. Was a... More

Hi Andy, Thanks for your review. You say you asked about changing rooms and we said no, I was actually on duty on the day and the hostel was fully booked as it is most days with a Central London Hostel and that is the only reason we could not move you. Im not too sure what you mean about... More

We went here and the first thing I thought was: I am not going to enjoy this. I went with a bunch of my friends and when we arrived, we ventured to our room, (Room 14) I put my bags down and then looked around the room. The light in our room was hanging off so that you could see... More

This hostel has some positive attributes (very helpful staff, a cozy lounge, great location), but DO NOT let them give you a basement room. My first night there I found rat poop in the bathroom and was woken in the night by a very large rat right beside my bed!!! Make sure you are on an upper floor. And don't... More

HI Mad-Cow, Thank you for taking the time to review St Pauls. Im pleased that you found the team helpful however I do need to address the issue of a rat. If you are looking for fancy accomodation, do not come here. If you know what youth hostels are about, be welcome. I've already used a YHA for a trip with my students so I didn't hesitate booking a second time. For a place to stay in Central London at a great price this place can't be beat. The rooms are clean, you don't have to go too far down the corridor to find a loo or shower. The communal areas are... More

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
