We chanced upon the Fox and Anchor last year when we were visiting the Barbican (5 minutes away). On that occasion we had lunch and were delighted to discover that they offered accommodation too. It's a great pub serving proper restaurant-quality food in a traditional London pub environment – lots of small rooms, leather sofas and tiled walls and ceilings.... More

We have been using the Fox and Anchor for breakfast in London for years on the occasions that we visit. For the second time we were disappointed. My husband always has the city boy and we have noticed that the portions have become smaller and smaller over the last few visits and now coffee is no longer included in the... More

Thankyou for your insight and comments; we take great pride in our breakfast, and thus are very dissapointed with your experinence. You should always leave our pub well fed and happy, and will make sure that we return the consistency required and expected of us. More

We stayed at the Fox & Anchor. It´s a pub with six hotel rooms very next door to the pub. The rooms seems to be recenty renovated which makes the standard high. Big rooms with big bathrooms (I saw three of the rooms) combined with a cosy pub makes the stay great! We had breakfast/brunch and it was really nice... More

My wife happened upon the Fox & Anchor by chance. We were in the area for a LSO concert at the Barbican. We arrived much too early by train, so decided to explore the area and came across the pub. The beer was very good (Greenwich Mean Time lager). My wife had the Ham Hock Pie, lots of meat, tender,... More

Long promising myself a stay at Fox and Anchor (mainly when staying in adjacent Malmaison), I was a touch underwhelmed with my first stay. Pleasant well equipped, small bedroom (Barbican) on the third floor (reached by narrow stairs), with one of the best 'hangover recovering' shower/baths ever encountered, and a comfortable bed and surroundings. Coffee and ironing facilities in the... More

We have visited this pub for breakfast on a number of occasions and the food and beer are always excellent with very attentive service. The building is historic and very interesting, recommend dining in one of the snugs. Look forward to visiting again.

My partner and I dined here on 27 September. The food was delicious, very fresh, although the portions could have been larger ! The service was faultless. I can't rate the rooms as we only dined at the pub

We were a party of five, requesting an unscheduled booking for a booth for seven o’clock in the evening, the reservation made at six thirty. We each had different main courses, the food was cooked and presented to a high standard. The prices are reasonable considering the high standard of the food and in the Clerkenwell area, usually an expensive... More

Visited for Sunday lunch in September as had visited few times before for a midweek evening meal and had been v impressed. Food as ever was tasty, but where has it gone?! Ordered fish and chips and got half a fish, about 5 triple cooked chips and a massive jug of tartare sauce (I could have smothered the fish in... More

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighborhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
