If you've always liked the look of the Bates Motel in Psycho then this is the place for you... Dirty, creepy, and in the heart of the red light district (complete with working girls outside the front door). House looked lovely from the outside but was dissapointing. Room was shabby and the shower room smelt bad - like mould and drains. Wasn't too friendly either, and breakfast was pretty low quality. Poor for the price. more

Spindle Lodge is a delightful late Victorian building in a good location, a short walk from the station and with parking at no charge. It's well looked after and furnished, but a small hotel like this really ought to be able to do better than the lukewarm welcome I got. I'd look elsewhere next time. more
