The Royal Oak is 2 minutes walk from the lake. Bowness itself is a lovely place. However we found it very expensive especially for alcoholic drinks £9.20 in one pub for a pint of cider and a pint of lager. The room was small, clean but very average. We were on the top floor and could not get free wi... More

The pub itself is very cosy and warm. There was a lovely fireplace next to where we sat and it was very welcoming on a cold March day. I chose to eat the fish and chips, which was beautiful. My partner had the steak and ale pie, which he highly recommends. Very reasonably priced, and a fab drinks selection. Excellent... More

Lovely pub, fun and friendly with a pool table, great room, clean but quite small. Parking outside. Fab food, breakfast was made to order and friendly staff. Had a great stay. Recommend it. Very central location.

We have eaten here a number of times as it is very welcoming to the dog. The food is fine, I particularly like the steak and the staff are friendly and chatty. The pub itself is a lot smaller than it looks from the outside and is very basic - wooden floors, lots of stools, pool table, darts and bright... More

On Sunday 31st January, we were on a break in the lakes staying at the Applegarth Villa in Windermere, we decided to go and find some where that did Sunday roast meals, So we came across the Royal Oak, Looked a nice place and indeed it was traditional looking pub, On entering, nothing special popped up, ordinary place with with... This place is fab, central location, clean, warm, modern bedrooms. The beds are soooo comfy. The food is fab! This really is better than most b and bs we have stayed in and we visit the lakes on a regular basis! Cannot fault this place, staff are excellent too

We stayed here for one night in two rooms with a shared bathroom. We appreciated the booking as it tricky to find place to stay for one night only at a weekend in the Lake District. Our rooms were spotless, with comfortable beds. The room wasn't grand or very large but we would not have expected this from pub style... More

Spent a week in Bowness recently and visited the pub several times. Always happy with the service. Good wine and choice of local beers. Free wifi - excellent connection! Didn't eat here on this visit but have have in the past. Never had any complaints. Nice atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed at this pub for two nights! It was great. Lovely friendly staff and breakfast was really good! The room had a shared bathroom which was spotless. The room was lovely and clean! Would recommend this place! We didn't eat in the evening but you get 10% off if you do.
