May 26, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

On entering the Miller Howe there is no formal reception area but we were immediately met by a member of the staff and wafted onto the sunny Terrace for pre- lunch drinks, this in itself would have been sufficient but the breathtaking views over lake Windermere made it even more special. After drinks we were wafted into the Dining Room... more

Just back from yet another stay in Miller Howe. Service and food as good as ever. Some really good deals to be had here at the moment. Would suggest calling the hotel directly to secure the best rate possible. Troutbeck room highly recommended. I can't wait to go again!! more

We arrived on May 2nd as a party of four. There is no formal reception area but we were quickly met and shown to our rooms. Rooms were clean, a little dated, some shabby-chic in places, and reasonable in size. Previous reviews have mentioned the lack of tea making facilities and this hasn't changed. Our rooms had stunning lake views.... more

We stopped just for Valentines evening and had a very good time. The public areas are freshly decorated and the restaurant food is well up to the very high standard set long ago by John Tovey. Michelin stars are waiting in the wings. Our room, Rosthwaite has a view down the lake which is magnificent. Unfortunately although the room decor... more

This place had a good reputation in the past and has recently been taken over, with new decor in some parts (the public rooms). Our room had not been revitalised - the ensuite carpet was threadbare in places and grouting around the bath was poor, the external balcony paintwork was peeling. The TV was very old hat and basic -... more

We stayed here mid week in October, just one night for a birthday treat. There is no reception, but you are quickly greeted in the hallway. The staff are attentive and plesant. We were lead to our room, which was on the 1st floor with a balcony and breath taking views over the countryside with the lake in the back... more

We booked here for a much needed respite after my husbands father's death. The room we were taken to was not our cup of tea and we were immediately placed in one of the cottages further down the slope towards the lake; it was lovely; separate lounge, bedroom and big bathroom with communal kitchen!. We would probably book this part... more

Treated my fiance to a night away in this truly special place. From the moment we entered the front door we felt at home and cossetted. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room had breat htaking views over lake Windermere and the Langdale Pikes. Had a bottle of champagne on the balcony and watched the sun set. The room was... more
