Stayed here earlier this month on a self-drive Shearings break. First time we have stayed at a C&C hotel and it is slightly more upmarket than the Bay Hotels. We had a lake view room at the front of the hotel. The decor was modern contempory but the furniture was dated, the floorboards very squeeky and the bed needed a... More

From the outside the hotel looks good and the location is excellent. The decor in the general communal area looks good and modern. All the staff are eastern european and we experienced language problems. On three occasions we ordered a pot of tea and received coffee. No apology given when we asked for what we had ordered. The staff's general... More

although we generally enjoyed our recent holiday in the Lake District we were disappointed with certain standards at the Windamere Hotel - some of staff appeared to have no people skills at all a 'Good Morning from me and my wife was usually ignored' - some the reception staff seemed to be completely disinterested in thier job's, we reported a... The Windermere is part of the Shearings group and is what we would call "budget hotel" however you get what you pay for. The Hotel common areas are bright and clean but our room was to say the least scruffy. The bed was uncomfortable and we could feel all the springs which to us meant it was old and should... More

I am glad you enjoyed our setting and the beautiful Lake district scenery from the building. We work hard as you recognise to provide value for money in this popular tourist destination. All comment cards are checked by management and acted upon, housekeeping carried out a spring clean of the room after your departure due to you raising your concerns.... More

The hotel is very well situated, even though up a steep slope. Great views over Windermere. The staff and service were excellent. Room a decent size and well maintained. More

My wife and I have just had a very enjoyable short break at Shearings' Windermere Hotel as members of an 18 person group from Crofton Walking Club. It is six years since we stayed at this hotel and the standards of service and quality of the meals are every bit as good as they were then. However the hotel's recent... More

We have stayed at this hotel before and keep coming back as it suits us down to the ground. From the minute we entered reception we felt welcome as the staff immediately recognised us and greeted us as if we were old friends. Our room was on the front of the hotel overlooking Windermere with views of the lake and... More

We recently returned from a 4 night break at the Windermere Hotel. We were meeting up with friends who had stayed there previously. I was half expecting the public areas to be in need of some tlc as it takes a lot of investment to keep these large old hotels up to a good standard. I was pleasantly surprised. There... More

Dear Reviewer I totally agree we are in an ideal and stunning location with the views of the Lakeland Fells and Lake Windermere. The front seats are often used to rest many Orrest Head viewpoint explorers. It’s true we have invested lots in all the public areas and corridors and we endeavour to continue to refurbish our standard rooms when... More

Just returned from 3 day self drive break (Shearings) - booked weeks ago and requested adjacent/nearby single room for son who accompanied us.
