Booked for 3 nights with friends to explore the lakes and surrounding area. Very friendly check in by Giles who gave us plenty of information and was very pleasant. Room large enough paid extra for superior room and had view over the town and part of the lake nice enough and despite what I'd read on previous reviews wasn't noisy.... More

Before I went I was concerned that the reviews suggested I would be disappointed. How wrong. Yes it is made up of lots of older people - I myself am heading that way - but the hotel is excellent. My only complaint is with a small minority of guests who seemed to get pleasure from complaining about nothing. Excellent staff in... More

Have just spent a week-end at the Windermere Hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, hotel was clean and tidy, and in an excellent position for the bus/train station. Food was very good, breakfast was ample, and the evening meals had a good selection, with the chef's specials being very good. Our room on the first floor was a... More

Got into reception to find a long queue with only one person in attendance and becoming very flustered as main type of guest were very elderly and needed to be given information two or three times. After a very lomg wait it was our turn, invoice handed over room key given along with pre paid parking bay for some unknown... More

Dear Reviewer Thank you for your review. Firstly I would like to apologise regarding the parking situation we did have a problem with guests parking in bays not allocated to them that weekend. With regards to your other comments, after investigating I was disappointed to find that at no point during your stay did you report the issues with your... More

We booked late so could only get a twin room. The hotel was tired and shabby looking and the lone receptionist was clearly overworked. We had a long queue before we could check in and our room was not ready 15minutes early. The decor in the bedroom was dark, old fashioned and grubby looking. We took photos on our mobile... More

Dear Reviewer Thank you for your recent review I was the “lone receptionist” on duty when you checked in, I'm sure you can appreciate the Windermere is a busy hotel and there are times when people are returning from a day out to collect their keys, have a question or are wanting to check in. This was not peak check... More

We had a three day stay from Friday 4th July to Monday. Great location we were in room 215 which was very clean and comfortable. Food was very good the staff were very friendly and helpful. We hope to re-visit for our 37th Anniversary. Thoroughly enjoyed the week-end and would recommend the hotel.

We travelled by Shearings' coach for the first time and were very apprehensive as to what the experience would be like. Everything from the coach travel to the hotel, the welcome at the hotel, the helpfulness of the staff and cleanliness of our room can not be faulted. We would hand on heart recommend it to anyone, and will book... More

My partner and I had booked a camping trip in the Langdale Valley - our first for many years - and on the understanding that if the weather was foul we'd de-camp to a B&B. By the time we'd arrived in Ambleside the rain was lashing down like stair rods so we decided to try and find somewhere just for... More
