My wife and I have just returned from a 4 day stay at this recently part refurbished hotel. The hotel is ideally located with Windermere railway station just across the road as is the bus terminus. Perfect for touring the locality and only a five minute bus ride to Bowness and Lake Windermere. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and... more

stayed here before and liked it, it will be lovely when the decorators have finished but when we were there they had closed the reception toilets for decorating and were in the middle of painting, re-furbing. Will not visit again as dont like staying in hotels that are being decorated at the same time, I think they should close to... more

Stayed here for a short break. Our special requests made in advance through Shearings were met. Our bedroom appeared to be cleaned to a good standard and was warm. The bathroom appeared to have been recently refurbished and the heated towel rail was a nice touch. We enjoyed the 3 course evening meal, which was hearty, with good portion sizes... more

This Shearings Hotel is in a prominent position on a hill overlooking Windermere, and we visited it on a self drive holiday. The hotel looks quite imposing on arrival. The room we were given had a view of a stone wall and reminded me of the standard room in a holiday camp in the 1950s, very basic and utilitarian, although... more

My wife and I have just returned from a 4 night break at this hotel, and after reading the previous negative reviews, I was dreading our stay! Well all I can say is the previous complainers must have had there comments noted by the WA Shearing group ( The owners of this hotel) They seem to have rectified a number... more

Returned today from a thoroughly satisfactory stay at this hotel. Clean, warm bedroom and bathroom (with constant hot water), good food, helpful local and foreign-born staff, within yards of information bureau, railway station and interesting stores, and within minutes by car of Lake Windermere and the fells. Admittedly not luxurious in any way and a bit shabby in places, but... more

Just got back from the Windermere & having read all the negative reviews can honestly say I don't know what all the fuss is about. The room we were allocated (48) was more than adequate, clean & brightly furnished. The meals were tasty & plentiful, staff/waiters very obliging. The hotel is situated some 1.5 miles from the lake at Bowness,... more
