Score would have been higher if it wasn't for the breakfast experience. Everything started off very well though. We were travelling up from London and I was concerned that the traffic may make us miss our dinner reservation. I rang the hotel and spoke to a very helpful chap who assured me that the team would sort something out regardless... More

We stayed in a first floor room (No.21) which was quite spacious, with a super-king sized bed, separate seating area, and which overlooked the hotel garden. The room was located in what I'd describe as a small wing off the hotel containing the hotel boardroom and a few other rooms. To access the dining room, lounge & bar required negotiation... More

Booked a meal based on reviews. We both had steak and a side, steaks were nice but nothing spectacular. Sides tasty and we tried the smoked steak - which was different but preferred the standard steak. Dessert was terrible, had the baked Alaska which for £8 you would expect to be lovely, it was disgusting and a waste of money.... More

Dear Caroline S, Thank you for your feedback following your recent visit to our restaurant. I am glad that you enjoyed your main courses, the smoked steak is not to everyone’s taste but also rare so I am glad you at least tried this even if you decided you preferred the unsmoked version. With regards to the Baked Alaska please... More

Celebrated our wedding anniversary with an excellent meal and overnight stay. Smoked fillet is a must for main, never had such a tasty tender steak. Wine a bit pricey though. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Set in a lovely quiet part of the Lake District within easy reach of all the main towns and villages.... More

Excellent- quite simply first class. Beautiful accommodation and a wonderful team who genuinely want to make your stay a four star experience. Would definitely stay here again. We took our 4 month old puppy and he was also made very welcome. Prior to having our puppy we only stayed in boutique hotels so we are very fussy. This is definitely... More

A good meal, but pricey - a must have is the smoked fillet steak. The Wild Boar sharing board was also very good - apple sauce, crackling, olives etc. The boulangere potatoes weren't great though. Enjoyable and the smoked meats are a must, but there is better cooked and seasoned food in the Lakes I think.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal in the Wild Boar restaurant. It's had a refurb since I last visited and the lounge and bar area is really nice. Sampled the home brewed beer which was good. The place has a very relaxed atmosphere and the food was great. Looking forward to going again.

To get things straight, this place isn't 5 mins from Windermere, unless you travel by moon rocket. I had a few Italian esq drives courtesy of taxis, and friends, and its a proper 10-15 min drive. Put it this way, unless you have a car, or you want banjo jangling ruralness, this place is not for you. It has its... More
