Beautiful hotel in very peaceful spot, with lovely grounds to stroll round, including small tarn which can be walked round. Lovely paved terrace with tables had distant views of Lake Windermere and mountains. Had fabulous room in new part, with small balcony. Room and bathroom could not be faulted in anyway. Public areas comfortable with different areas to sit. Only... more

We ate here in June, following a friend's recommendation. The meal was superb, starting with pre-dinner drinks in the early evening sunshine on the terrace overlooking lake Windermere and finishing with petit four and coffee in the lounge. It was exactly how you expect a country house hotel to be in your dreams but never believe that in reality you... more

We have just had our sons wedding at The Linthwaite and can honestly say its the best hotel EVER!. Extended family from America came too. They thought exactly the same as us. The experience was better than you could ever imagine. The staff were fantastic. You felt like they wernt there but they but tended to your every need. So polite... more

We booked this last minute and I am glad we did after reading reviews on trip advisor. We got the room for £109.00, which is a bit steep to other hotels but the views, the staff and the setting is worth the money. If you fancy a total switch off this is the place to go, the tarn and a... more

My husband and I stayed at Linthwaite last year and enjoyed it very much at that time. We hankered after another visit since then, and last week we had the perfect excuse of tacking the visit on to a trip to Aintree. Last year the weather was quite dreich (Scottish word for grey, gloomy, dismal and drizzly!) so we didn't... more

In the world of hotels, it is not often that I'm inspired to write a review. Linthwaite is superb from start to finish. The staff are just amazing. Feel like having dinner out? Sarah will organise a table for you in busy Windermere. And why eat out - we had to drag ourselves out of the hotel in the evening.... more

I took my partner here for our 3-year anniversary and neither he or I could find fault with any aspect of it. We opted for the evening meal and breakfast, and the staff even brought our pre-meal canapés to the room for no extra cost. We stayed in one of the new superior rooms, and it was beautiful. Too often... more

We stayed here for two nights in May 2009. It was just incredible. The hotel is a 100 year old Edwardian country house, and it has been updated without being cheapened at all. The hotel and gardens are beautiful, and the service is sublime. And the food--incredible! It's comfortable and sophisticated without being stuffy. I really felt as if I... more

A classy but not stuffy hotel with impeccable but friendly service and truly scrumptious food. Wonderful views, comfortable home-from-home atmosphere made this a truly special weekend. more
