This hotel is clean, beautiful, well-located & the staff are wonderfully attentive! It had everything we needed, even despite arriving at 11pm - unable to find a pub in town which would serve dinner after 10. Reception handed us a order-in menu & we had a lovely amber ale from the bar in the garden, with some take-away pizza. Our... More

Stayed at this splendid hotel 14th to 17th July. Room 10 was clean with nice view of garden and lake in the background. The hotel caters very much for guests with sight impairment and their dogs and although we are visually sound we were very impressed with how well they looked after everyone who needed a wee bit extra help.... This is an interesting hotel. Originally built as a holiday house for the Coutts family it has once been a beautiful place. It is a sound building, comfortable beds. Quiet location with glimpses of the lake. It is a vision impaired friendly place - which I didn't realize when we booked - not that this made any difference although I... More

We checked in on Monday 23.06.14, for a 2 day break stayed at this hotel which was overall good, clean and friendly staff one thing we were very uncomfortable with was we were in room 7 with a balcony directly outside our window which we had no access to yet people were standing literally right outside our room with no... I booked this room at the last minute over a busy weekend, and was looking for the cheapest place I could find, that was dog friendly. On that basis it was great, but I do feel that it was overpriced and not up to the standards that were advertised, and it wouldn't be my first choice if I was looking... More

Booked a last minute break, and could not have picked a nicer place. The staff were very attentive, and helpful without been over the top. Had a lovely room, which was clean and spacious. Food was excellent, and there was plenty of choice. Takes around 20 mins to walk into bowness which was ok for us, but people with mobility... More

I chose this hotel on Booking.com particularly because it offered a room with a view. I was staying in the Lakes after all. What constitutes a view in such a picturesque region would be pretty obvious I would think, and I don't believe a view of a slate roof, some trees and other houses really cuts it. I had paid... More

Our room (the cottages) was lovely and big and had French windows with access to an enclosed dog walking area which was perfect for us. However, we booked dinner bed and breakfast.... and whilst in our room I said " looking at the décor in the restaurant, I'd guess there will be soup, prawn cocktail and melon on the menu"... More

This small hotel caters for groups of blind and partially-sighted guests and their dogs, but that isn't immediately obvious when booking online; couples seeking a luxurious, romantic retreat might be disappointed by the informal, homely atmosphere. However, it would certainly be worth considering as a wedding venue as the main building, public rooms and gardens are beautiful, if in need... More
