A lovely charming hotel, wonderful open fire bar and historic feel dining area, excellent welcome and nice friendly staff. Excellent food. Lovely area to explore from and great last minute availability including special offer as we arrived after 6pm

I've taken one star off because we stayed in the Dora room, and all the soft furnishings (carpet, curtains, upholstered chairs, sheets, duvet, etc) were shabby & although I didn't dare look, the mattress felt old as well. The room had obviously been cleaned before we arrived, but years of use give a grubby feeling to fabrics. They should have... More

My self and my partner came here for a weekend break, it was our first time here and we had a lovely stay, the hotel is nice enough, not the most modern, but that adds character. Our room (the Buttermere) was ok, it did get noisy during the night, as the staff use the door opposite and it does bang... More

We stayed two lovely days at this hotel. It is best described as comfortably quirky. It is an older property as the older part of the building is from the 17th century, but with the large and beautiful rooms. We stayed in the Kentmere room and recommend it particularly. If you like the large chain hotels then this is not... More

Me, my boyfriend and our little doggy stayed at the glen rothay on a Sunday night a couple of weeks ago. I emailed Paul direct to arrange our stay-he was very helpful and even after our email exchange made me look forward to our stay! Caroline made us feel very very very welcome when we arrived at the hotel. We... More

After going there for a 70th Birthday party we found the food very disappointing. The starters came out cold and two people in our party were left waiting for there starters for over ten minutes after the rest of us had finished eating our starts. Once our main meals came out these very poor with no taste. The waiters could... More

Booked an overnight stay for our anniversary with a little anxiety after reading the mixed reviews, however we like old fashioned and tired ( weirdly)!so thought we'd try it. Dark, dismal decor , food bland and frozen, buildings in desperate need of attention and grounds need tidying up ( our view was over the woods but there was a load... More

We stayed again in September, having stayed in August as well. The rooms are unique, a good size, ours had a lovely big bathroom too. They are dog friendly which is vital to our enjoyment. The food is good, a bit pricey for pub food, but good quality. A great location, once you have crossed the road. We will certainly... More

We stopped here for a drink on our way back to Ambleside from Keswick. It was the sign that mentioned a 17th Century Inn that caught our attention. The Bader Bar was fairly dark inside with a small bar area. The best thing about this place was the selection of draught beers (CAMRA supporters will appreciate). Not the best place... More
