Me, my boyfriend and our little doggy stayed at the glen rothay on a Sunday night a couple of weeks ago. I emailed Paul direct to arrange our stay-he was very helpful and even after our email exchange made me look forward to our stay! Caroline made us feel very very very welcome when we arrived at the hotel. We... More

After going there for a 70th Birthday party we found the food very disappointing. The starters came out cold and two people in our party were left waiting for there starters for over ten minutes after the rest of us had finished eating our starts. Once our main meals came out these very poor with no taste. The waiters could... More

We stayed again in September, having stayed in August as well. The rooms are unique, a good size, ours had a lovely big bathroom too. They are dog friendly which is vital to our enjoyment. The food is good, a bit pricey for pub food, but good quality. A great location, once you have crossed the road. We will certainly... More

We stopped here for a drink on our way back to Ambleside from Keswick. It was the sign that mentioned a 17th Century Inn that caught our attention. The Bader Bar was fairly dark inside with a small bar area. The best thing about this place was the selection of draught beers (CAMRA supporters will appreciate). Not the best place... More

We stayed here in August just for the one night on a spare of the moment get away. We had a brilliant time. The staff were friendly, welcoming and couldn't do more to help. The room was clean, comfortable and dog friendly. After a walk round the lake which is only a stones throw away we relaxed outside in the... More

We booked 2 nights here this August and were very impressed. The hotel had great charm. The rooms were spotless, beautifully done and very comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and excellent bar meals were available. Would certainly book again.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at The Glen Rothay Hotel & Badger Bar. A great welcome by the friendly staff and we were given a special upgrade due to a computer mishap. (Thank-you) The décor is a more defined taste and you somehow feel like you have been taken back in time which adds to the magic... More

We'll as a lover a real ale this was heaven, but it's the overall relaxing experience which is to be enjoyed. All the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. All clean, some paintwork needs freshen..but it's 400 years old origins so don't expect the Hyatt! Fresh cooked breakfast lovely. Bar food okay, but we didn't eat in restaurant... More

Stayed for 3 nights recently in a spacious family room. This is a very old hotel and the fixtures and fittings match it. Decent quality food at expected holiday prices. Good breakfast which catered for veggies. Was a bit disappointed with quality of local beers - probably not kept well rather than any problem with breweries. Excellent free entertainment including... Thankyou for the good comments, though we will have to agree to disagree on the quality of the ales. We are extremely proud of both the range of local beers we stock and how well we keep and serve them. Good as they are, as the owner I only get to try the occasional pint and wish I had the... More

We have visited this bar several time over the years and it had started to get a little tired although always very friendly atmosphere. The quality of the beer is excellent and the range is pretty good (in the Good Beer Guide). The food was much improved and now a good standard. We had the Cumberland Sausage and Gammon which... More

We have been really busy over the summer and are of course pleased that our efforts to keep an eye on the quality and quantity of our food is paying off. We have a good team here who genuinely want people to enjoy their stay or their meal, so we do take careful note of reviews. As the new owner... More
