I checked in to a smokey room, we were offered another but the smell of polish and masking air fresheners was just too much. Not a place I would recommended if you've come to the lakes for the fresh air. On a plus side the receptionist was trying to be helpful

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I am sorry you chose not to stay here at The Clifton Hill Hotel. I have written to you personally with my response to your complaint and must point out that although we found no evidence of smoke in your initially allocated room you were offered an alternative which you... On approach it is evident that this hotel is in need of some TLC but don't be put off, exceptional welcome from staff, very good food, clean beds and plenty of hot water. On return from exploring hill and vale what better than to find that you have a mug along side the tea/coffee making facilities in room? We wanted... More

We stayed in this hotel for one night as we were going to the Lowther show. We had a very warm welcome on arrival. Our room was comfortable and clean, overlooking the well kept hotel garden. with a view of the mountains in the distance. The breakfast was very good. The staff are very friendly and professional.

Having read the reviews I was not expecting too much, I can take 70’s wallpaper as long as it is clean. First the good points The travel cot was an excellent Mamma&pappa’s version, shame there was no bed linin. The towels were fresh and plenty of them Oh and there was loads of room to park your car in the... More

Where do you start...ok!! Freindly meeting on arrival by i guess the manager. If only we were shown the room first! Bedroom 210.... Firstly the fire doors on the corridoors were left open all night..no tell a lie, one was kept shut to prevent smoke and flames, but that door had a 2 inch gap under it. Bedroom dated, blankets... I travel a lot on business, but on a recent trip to The Lakes, my usual hotel was full, so I tried the Clifton Hill. From the smile and greeting that met me as I opened the front door, through dinner, the bar and breakfast, this was by far the friendliest hotel I have ever stayed in. Another unexpected plus... I stayed with my girlfriend on my way up to Edinburgh. The hotel is perfect for such an enjoyable trip or for visiting the Lakes. The staff made you feel very welcome and there was a great atmosphere in the bar. I had a lovely meal and a good night's sleep. Followed by a first class breakfast before heading north.... More

Having read a few reviews on here I was a bit worried. We have just stayed for two nights though and were really pleased. Our room was clean and we got a good nights sleep. More importantly it was cheap and we had 3 fantastic days walking around Ullswater. This hotel is old and very tired but the staff were... More
