Welcoming and full of character, we are having an enjoyable stop here on our way to Scotland. Our room is comfortable if a little tired with scuffed wallpaper. Small but adequate bathroom, in which the only negative is the shower water is not hot enough. Delicious dinner last night with attentive staff. Looking forward to equally good tonight. Major blot... My wife and I have just enjoyed 4 nights at The George on their "Honister" break. This is real value for money and we enjoyed the bonus of an upgrade to a Feature room (no 6) and the a la carte menu. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean but did lack a clock or radio and only had a very... More

My husband and I booked The George Hotel as a last minute 'get away' - It's very central and in the heart of Penrith, so if you're wanting to see the Lakes, it's worth bearing in mind that you would need to either book a tour or have transport. There is a tourist information bureau nearby which can help. It's... More

My wife and I have just left the George in Penrith after a one night Secret Escape deal. We booked in and went your room, it was lovely. Spotless, the large bed was sumptuous, along with all the toiletries (which we didn't use) and even bath robes. The weather couldn't have been Better, which added to our break. We had... More

Everything as promised on the website. A warm welcome and fantastic tea. Cannot believe how much was included. Sampled everything but couldn't finish it all. A great deal with Travelzoo but would have been good value at full price. Hope to return one day

We arrived at the George Hotel and my mother and I decided to have afternoon tea, we thought we would have been seated in the main restaurant with the other customers having afternoon tea, but we where left in the reception area. Being served tea with water jugs and left, not one staff member approached us after this, the water... More

Lovely location, hotel full of character but our afternoon tea was disappointing. The staff are very friendly and helpful but the tea was not a patch on some of the other hotels in the Lake District hotels group.

My wife and I have just spent 2 nights at the George Hotel and Friday 11th July and Sat 12July and can honestly say it was the worst food I have experienced. On the Saturday night we were served a Roast Beef dinner and the roast potatoes were dry and hard and tasted as though been re-heated a couple of... More

We went to the George Hotel for a champagne afternoon tea at the weekend. The hotel is very charming and full of character. The staff were attentive and the plate of goodies that were brought to us were very tasty; the sandwiches, scones and a top layer of cakes that we just couldn't manage. When we first sat down a... This hotel was great. Myself and my fiancé (both in our 20's) stayed here for our 4 year anniversary together last week and it was a really good stay. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is spotlessly clean and has some real character. We specifically chose a hotel like this instead of a boring generic travelodge and... More
