We arrived pretty late, having been delayed on the M6; the idea was to stay one night en route to Scotland. We turned up at 8.15, but it was no trouble to serve us a wonderful meal even though the kitchen closes at 8.30. Our room was delightful, our dog was warmly welcomed and we had an excellent breakfast in... More

Miserable old woman who ran the place it was empty and when ask for a drink at 10:50 was told it's too late even though it's a hotel needs to work on her managerial skills . If you want a place where there's no music overpriced food and bar staff that are programmed to say your welcome this is your... More

We visited here in July, lovely location situated in the hills of the Lake District. Hotel is easy to find off the a66, the staff seem nice in the pub and were very welcoming. Cottage was nice with nice views, kitchen and bathrooms very nice but if I had to pick at anything it would be there there were no... More

Conveniently situated just off the A66 and not far from M6 this is a lovely little hotel with a very good restaurant, the food was the highlight. We arrived here after travelling from the Northumberland coast with a stop enroute to look at Hadrians Wall. Check in was at the bar , our rooms were small but clean and comfortable... More

This pub is great. Great food, probably up there with the best in the lakes. Lovely atmosphere. The manager is brilliant, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. This is my favourite pub in the lakes...

We stayed with friends in Saddleback cottage over a long weekend and ate in the Inn on one evening. The cottage is very comfortable for a walking weekend. The layout is unusual with the bedrooms on the ground floor but this works very well - one window in the lounge/kitchen/dining room upstairs has views over to Blencathra, very useful for... More

When I spend time somewhere I like to feel welcome. A cheery smile, good eye contact, maybe a bit of interaction if the person has time. I didn't feel like that at The Troutbeck Inn and the slim, middle aged lady who served us didn't seem to be enjoying the experience and so broke the first rule of customer care... More

Visited twice in just over a week. Must book to ensure getting a table as this place is probably the best in the whole of Cumbria. Starters if mussels are the reason my husband returns again and again whilst the salmon roulade is to die for. The fillet steak is unbelievable and for the price you cannot eat better anywhere.... Rooms are clean tidy but decorations a little tired but food is very well presented and tasted excellent with decent portions, breakfast was also very good. The staff were very warm and welcoming I would stay here again.

Stopped here last weekend with 4 friends. Bedrooms were great, very clean. The food was really great, from breakfast to evening meal. We were cycling the Fred Whitton course and had booked an eight o'clock evening meal but were running late so had to put the meal back half an hour (they were fully booked for the evening meal) which was greeted...
