We recently stayed for one night at the beginning and end of our holiday in Scotland. Ian and Sue are very friendly and made us very welcome. Our bedroom was at the back of the house so was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfast menu is vast I actually had homemade fishcakes and poached eggs which were delicious. Everything... My husband & I were very pleased we had chosen to spend 3 nights here whilst visiting family & friends in Cumbria. We received a very warm welcome from both Ian & Sue. Ian provided cheerful & much appreciated help with our luggage. Our room was quiet, & very well equipped with the coffee & Tea tray replenished daily. The... More

Stayed for one night arriving after quite a long drive and we were immediately impressed by the welcome and the facilities. Our bedroom was large, very nicely furnished and with a lovely bathroom. The breakfast was as good as it gets, with superb quality local ingredients. Highly recommended.

We stopped off here for one night and had a very pleasant welcome and stay and the breakfast was very good. However we booked a family room for ourselves and our one daughter and found out the price for a double room was £75 and we paid £110 for an extra bed and a small bowl of cereal for our... More

Following your review we have now changed the pricing policy to a basic price of £75.00 plus a supplement per child depending on the ages of the child or children. Hopefully this will be fairer. Regarding the size of the bathroom in order to create a larger facility we would need to change the room to a double bed and... More

It was just an overnight stay before we headed down south. We stayed in the family room with 4 beds. The location is good with parking available. Breakfast was average since we were a vegetarian family and were not offered much options. The room was cramped for space with the bathroom having hardly any space to stand. Expected more for... Thank you for your review. We have taken on bourd your comments and agree the space in the family room is not really adequate for 4 adults. We will in future restrict the leting of that room to either 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. Regarding the breakfast we will extend and review the vegetarian dishes on offer... More

Having spent the day climbing Scarfell Pike, what more could you want then being met by the welcoming Ian. A comfortable room with everything we needed. Restaurants down the road and a delicious breakfast the next day. Super, thank you, we'd certainly stay here again.

Full marks on all counts for the Caledonia. Everything was right. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. The staff/owners were very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.

We booked at short notice for the 16th & 17th October, while visiting our daughter who is in uni accommodation in the town. Our hosts Ian & Sue were very welcoming after a long drive. Once shown to our spotless and tidy room we were given info on all the good places to try for a meal for the evening.... More

The Caledonia was the first overnight stay of a recent coast to coast cycling trip & delivered exactly what we were looking for and more. Ian, the owner gave us a warm welcome as we arrived and kindly offered to tumble dry our cycling kit which had been completely soaked by a full day of Lake District rain. Our room... More
