My husband booked this as a surprise, as I'd never been to the lakes before. What a truly beautiful Victorian hotel. He knows I love old buildings with lots of history. This met every expectation. On arrival a very quick check in, and we went up to our room. A very large room with the traditional high ceilings, we had... More

On arrival to The hotel it's clear to see the grand entrance and historic railway platform, the staff at the ready to welcome and help with bags however the weather less welcoming. My partner and I were placed on the 3rd floor which could be accessed via the lift or a grand staircase with gothic appeal which led onto further... More

We had a 2 night stay at this elegant hotel on the recommendation of a friend. We were not disappointed. Right from the moment we checked in the reception staff and indeed all the staff were wonderful. We had a garden room which as it suggests looked over the lawns where there was croquet and other games laid out. The restaurant... More

Just left after a 3 night stay and all I can think is the entire experience could have been so much better. It's a grand, old building that has a wonderful quirkiness. The endless staircases, slanted floors, uneven windows--they all add to the charm. What isn't charming is being asked if you would like a morning paper ( yes, please)... More

Having paid £169 for a double station room (#404) with King Bed - B&B for a Saturday night stay, I'm sorry to report being disappointed. Staying in 50+ hotels a year, I would rate the room we had in the £90-110 range, no more (taking into consideration this was high season). It would only be fair to reflect that some... More

Booked in advance for a romantic lake district weekend - and having never visited the area before - wanted somewhere close enough to the town centre but far enough away for peace and quiet. Weather was lousy so ended up going further afield by car, but the friendly staff are very welcoming and the room was warm and comfortable and... More

We wanted a peaceful weekend away and this delivered. A little extra attention to detail would have given it full marks. As we had upgraded to a junior suite we had a super large room with an excellent view, especially of the rabbits having tea on the crochet lawn ! however I am never very keen on shower curtains in... We have been visiting this hotel for 16 years and in all that time never had a bad stay food room just how we like it. Not this time, not sure what as gone wrong with the staff but even when we complained the manager instead of saying sorry, tried to turn the whole event onto me, couldn`t quite believe... More

After a super visit in January we decided to spend another couple of nights at the Hotel so that we could visit some of the more remote lakes in the lake District. We again stayed in the Station part of the Hotel and our room (Rubens) was very spacious but was looking a little 'worn' and didn't have any views... More
