Stayed for a few nights recently at The Highfields, situated close to the Town centre and a 5 minute walk to The Derwentwater the Hotel is in a cracking position. On arrival we were showed to our room [17],the view is stunning and though the room is completely different to the picture shown on the website it was very clean and... More

Smallish hotel, classically decorated. Bit of a climb to the room but worth it as it had a stunning view of the lake and surrounding hills. Staff very friendly, polite and helpful. Bit of a wait for our evening meal but when it came it was absolutely first class. Centre of town is less than 5 mins walk away. If... More

Thoroughly enjoyed a three-night stay at the Highfield Hotel. Our room (16) had a bay window with views of the mountains and Derwentwater in the distance -- fabulous! The staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful and the food (breakfast and dinner) was delicious. There are many hotels and restaurants in the Lake District -- but please don't miss this one!

We don't usually book hotels in busy towns, preferring the quieter outskirts & villages but having looked at the hotels website we liked the look of the accommodation & menus so thought we'd give The Highfield a try & booked 2 nights. The location was surprisingly quiet, over looking the park which runs down to Derwentwater. You would forget you... More

This is a very pleasant hotel overlooking the parkland and down towards Derwent Water. Our room (20) was clean and comfortable. The food is very nice, although there are lots of good pubs and restaurants in the town that are also worth trying. Staff were friendly and generally helpful throughout our stay. The free car park for residents is very... More

Stayed two nights at the Highfield and weren't disappointed. As the title suggests, we got room 16 which had distant views of the Derwent Water lake and surrounding fells and it was beautiful. Note that room 16 is on the second floor, and there is one more floor above which I'm guessing will have even better views. Some reviewers commented... More

I can't recommend the place highly enough. The staff are so super friendly and helpful and the food is to die for! This is our second time staying (used to stay here regaulary as a child when Mr & Mrs Jordan owned it), and we just can't fault it, it's gone from strength to strength. We drove over 5 hrs... More

My partner took me here for our first trip to the Lakes. Though the weather was disappointingly poor, our room offered plush, respite. We were warmly welcomed by friendly faces which I always appreciate, nothing worse than a host who can't be bothered. We were shown to our room, 20 and given a key on a wooden keyring, retro and... We spent the weekend in the Woodford room, previously the chapel- very large, but without views. However, with a lovely seating area, huge bed and bathroom, this is very comfortable. The staff are great, and the food smashing. The dinner menu changes daily, there are several choices for each course, and a good wine list too! It was beautiful weather so... More

This hotel is in a great location. But, having spent 4 nights here whilst travelling around England and Scotland as a family of 2 adults and 2 children I feel that it is somewhat overpriced for what it is - compared with other accommodation. No doubt many of the rooms are fine for 2 adults, but the family room is... More
