My wife and I have been guests in Swinside Lodge Hotel 7 times during the past 7 years. This year's owners, Mike and Kath, are the third owners we've dealt with in that time! Amazingly, we loved it the first year and each successive owner has added to the hotel in such a way that we continue to be drawn... more

We stayed at the lovely Swinside Lodge in May for seven days. This is our sixth visit to Swinside and we definitely anticipate returning next May. The new owners, Cath and Mike, are most accomodating and delightful. They are incredibly enthusiastic and energetic about maintaining the essence of what makes Swinside so special and improving on that. They have many... more

Quite hard to find on the windy around Derwent Water, so it was with relief that we finally arrived, and from the first view, it looked to be a charming little spot. Extremely quiet, in an out of the way area with almost no traffic. There was some work being done on the car park area, but it did not... more

This is a superb small hotel, up there with the best we have stayed in around the world. We chose it from Alistair Sawday's book and he was not wrong, even though the new owners have only been there since October 2008. They kept the chef who is brilliant, and have done some upgrading already. It is small and spotless... more

I thought this was a really lovely hotel. Rooms were comfortable and spotless. I loved the view from the window. The dinners were absolutely excellent. Wonderful food, beautifully presented. Hosts Michael and Cathy made everything about the stay pleasant. I found the hotel's situation perfect, with a choice of lake, mountain or valley walking on the doorstep. The wildlife visiting... more

The hotel enjoys a fine location, framed by lakeland fells and is surrounded by fields full of lambs during our stay, with red squirrels woodpeckers and many other birds visiting the garden. Catbells is only ten minutes walk away , as is the edge of Derwentwater, with lovely lakeside trails and a regular boat service to Keswick and other stops... more

This hotel is a perfect place to stay and enjoy the beauty of the Lake District. Excellent walks are on the doorstep as the hotel is situated at the foot of Cat Bells and very close to Derwent Water! There was no need to use our car during our stay. We were made to feel very welcome and the room... more

We booked this hotel blind over the web, so you never quite know what you're actually going to find. However, once over the threshold, all qualms are immediately erased. We were greeted by a warm handshake and a real welcome from what turned out to be a really nice couple. The new owners have been in since October 08 and... more

This is a delightful, small hotel, in attractive grounds and set in the stunning surroundings of the Newlands Valley, near Keswick. Rooms are of varying size we understand. Ours (Oak room) was probably one of the smaller rooms, but was still a decent size, tastefully decorated and had a modern en-suite bathroom although the quality of the drawers was not... more

Overview: This is a small hotel with exceptional personal service from the owners. Highlights are the setting - at the foot of Cat Bells in the Newlands Valley - and the excellent dinners and breakfasts. Location: Excellent location, not far from Keswick but in a rural situation amid some of the Lakes' most beautiful countryside. Close to many walking locations,... more
