I thoroughly enjoyed my brief stay, the staff were all really lovely, and friendly. So very welcoming, ideal for couples, friends, families. Be prepared for no signal and a lot of fun, so much to do in the surrounding areas.

I've stayed in a lot of hostels and this is one of the best. Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful. Option of cooked meals, breakfasts and packed lunches. Location was great, there's a lovely circular walk from the hostel. The lakeside is less than a minute walk. Rooms were clean. Adequate toilets and showers. Self-catering kitchen was well-equipped. Will definitely stay... More

The views from the grounds of the hostel are beautiful. It is ideally located for all the local sights and activities. My son & I went on a school trip (the school had booked the whole hostel). We visited Walla Crag, Catbells, Whinlatter Forest and did Rock Climbing and Kayaking whilst based here. The rooms are spacious and clean. The... More

I reached the hostel by bus 78 from Keswick. The location of the hostel is amazing, very close to Derwentwater Lake, at the base of a forest, with a waterfall at the back, close to Keswick town and with great opportunity for various walks in the area. If you follow the footpath at the back of the hostel, you will see... More

It's a glorious view over Derwentwater to Skiddaw, as soon as you arrive, and it grows on you! Best take a hike up the waterfall and onto the open fell above where the perspectives enthrall: e.g. hike from Walla Crag to Bleaberry Fell, High Seat, High Tove (take poles and enjoy the boggiest section of the Lake District!) then turn... This is an independent hostel set in a country house. Like all hostels the décor is simple and a bit battered but that should not detract from the delights of the property (original Adam fireplace in the dining room and some of the cornices give you a hint of what it was like). The views alone (particularly from room 7)... More

Lovely setting, clean and perfectly functional. Really quiet too which was great for the children. Lovely views from every window. There were lots of other families staying here and lots of cyclists (there is a secure bike store). Parking is a plenty and lots of space for the children to run around outside. The communal kitchen had everything we needed... More

Stayed here one night when cycling around Lakes District. Got into Keswick by bike quite late and it was a dark journey down Barrowdale Road out of Keswick until I found it. Nice surprise. Friendly staff, clean environment, didn't really have time to meet anyone but people seemed nice. Fair enough breakfast. If you are looking for a clean bed... More

Friendly and relaxed youth hostel right on the edge of Derwent Water. You can reach it by an hours walk or by frequent buses from Keswick. The breakfast was basic but good, the rooms were nice and clean, the staff friendly and the lake a literal stones-throw away. The price was around £20 for a bed in an 8-bed dorm.... More
