Stayed for 2 nights in this lovely hotel, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and clean, it had everything I needed. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, even the fried eggs were perfect. Would stay here again if I ever had cause to visit Kendal again (the reason I was... More

my wife and i stayed at the highgate 25th to 27th sept, for our anniversary treat,we found our room exceptionally clean and well suited to our needs, the room itself overlooked the main street but we was not disturbed by any late night noise. the highgate is situated in a really good spot, with a 5 minute walk to the town centre where... As mentioned by others, yes there is a stale cigarette smell in the reception area - but nowhere else. This is a listed building so has some degree of charm. It is situated at the start of the main high street and everywhere is within walking distance. The fact that it is not a luxury or even 4 star is... More

My hosts were friendly , welcoming and a pleasure to be with. Every request was dealt with quickly. The garden space at rear v. Pleasant and well cared for.... More

Me and my boyfriend decided to have just one day break and he ended up booking the Highgate hotel, parking was very easy as he was given a parking code, the hotel is just located on the high street of Kendal, the bath room was very tiny and as no basin to brush teeth so the basin was in the... We were going to a concert at the Brewery arts centre and asked for nearby hotels. We were told to try here. We are so happy we did. From phoning up to make booking and being given directions around kendal's one way system, the staff are so helpful. When we arrived we were shown to our room and had a... More

The parking was only difficult because we were not given the code in advance and nobody answered the buzzer. Once we had the code it was fine. There was a definite smell of smoke in reception, but it wasn't noticeable anywhere else. The breakfast was great and the staff were lovely.

My family and I have just returned from a 2-night stay at this hotel. As previous reviewers have commented, the owner is obviously a smoker and the smell of cigarette smoke permeates throughout the premises. It was so strong during our first evening that it affected my eyes. The owner mentioned within the first ten to fifteen minutes of our... More

Similar to a previous review the smell of stale cigarette greeting you when you entered was an ominous sign. However, no sign of the smell in the bedrooms upstairs or the dining room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was central to everything and the breakfast was pretty good. I invited two more family members who live... More

Gorgeous Grade 2 listed building full of features, I loved the shutters on the windows in our room which had two large sash windows looking onto the front. The rooms are well appointed with luxury hot chocolate - perfect after a walk around Kendal Castle which we did! The location is perfect, set in the Town centre near all the... More
