Jan is very friendly and flexible. Don't mind us waiting in the lounge while waiting for our train at 3.30PM . The hostel is clean. The bedsheets are clean. Would love to come back again. One small area of improvement : the shower water pressure can be better.

This hostel has improved after going independent (it used to be a YHA one) so I was both surprised and delighted. A warmer, friendlier feel to the place, improved furnishings, plus convenient touches like hairdryers etc. put this definitely in the 'must stay here again' category when hostelling round the Lakes. They have a nice ginger cat too, called George.... More

Very nice hostel in Kendal. Beds are comfortable and rooms are spacious. Big kitchen and dining room, cozy living room. Would definitely recommend it to hikers while on a weekend in Lake District. Good value for the price.

Lovely homely and welcoming feel to the hostel. Wood fire, big kitchen and common areas. WiFi worked well in the common areas no problems. Even scored myself a double bed in one of the dorms! A real luxury in a hostel! The place felt secure and clean and well looked after. I would be quite comfortable there for an extended... More

Stayed at the Kendal Hostel for a Friday night in April as part of a walking weekend. Group of 9 in our early 40s and we called ahead and arranged the 'dorm' room exclusively. Hostel staff were fantastic, it was short notice but they were really helpful. Room was great, up at the top of the building, amongst the rafters,... More

Close enough to the Brewery Arts Centre to make it a real focus of my visit, I also benefited from their spotlights at night. Easy to walk around in, Kendal is astonishingly friendly with all that a traveller could need, from seclusion to entertainment; scenery to bask in and a castle on a hill.

I stayed here for two nights and I really enjoyed my time here. The hostel is comfortable and homey, much like staying in your own house. Entertainment is not a problem as there are board games, a collection of DVDs and books, a television, and even a pool table where you can play pool for free, The staff here are... More

For what its worth, this hostel was exactly what me and my mate needed. After a hazardous night camping near Keswick we decided that we'd sojourn a bit further south and ended up at Kendal. We knew we wanted a hostel and were surprised to stumble upon this well run establishment. It is exactly what you'd expect. In a busy... More

Be sure to notice that reception times stop at 10 and begin again at 5, besides that, it is a cozy hostel, not far from windemere. Its easy to interact with the other travelers, the common space is very relaxed and confined. Good place if you're looking for a quiet stay.

I've spent a couple of days for business and my experience in the hostel was good. Great location, room was fine although a bit chilly and the wifi signal was very poor (this was an inconvenient for me, due to I had to work with my laptop during evenings). Despite this, the hostess was so very kind and, as soon... More
