Very reasonable prices given the standard and quantity of the food. I had the Ham and Eggs and was expecting the usual thin slice of reconstituted ham however I recieved a huge platefull of quality ham topped with 2 large eggs and a portion of homemade chips. The so called 'cocky' member of staff was very helpfull and was great... More

Myself and my wife came here one evening and asked about the ales only to be spoken to like we were two year olds. The bar man in question Matt treated us with contempt swore under his breath and slammed our drinks on the counter, needless to say we left after one drink and will not return unless they look... We chose this Pub in Hawkshead for three nights which was four miles from the arranged Wedding Celebrations. Our West Highland and Yorkshire Terriers were with us and we stayed in Room 8. Each day began with a hearty breakfast served from 8.30-9am and we had dinner in the Bar on the second day. A traditional Pub, lively and busy.... More

We thought we would try all the pubs as we were staying in Hawkshead for a week in June 2014.Called in for a drink. Bar man 'cocky'- not keen to let my partner try a real ale before he bought it. We felt uncomfortable and left after one drink. Food a bit cheaper in there so I guess it depends... More

Just back from a trip to the Lakes & an awful meal at the Red Lion. In a beautiful location, with friendly evening staff, the pub is great. But alas, the food is AWFUL. After a long wait it finally came, bloody chicken for me & dried up tasteless lasagne for my partner. Mine was sent back & at the... More

Nice pub on the main street Hawkshead. Quite large inside so no problem getting a seat and bar staff attentive too. Food is decent although menu in the evenings a little limited. Well behaved dogs are also allowed. Worth a visit.

The food was superb, steak and ale pie the best I've ever eaten. Bit of a wait but it was a Friday evening and the pub and garden were full and it was well worth it when it arrived. Dog friendly. Staff very friendly and Good prices too!

Turned up at 12pm. Lunch was still cooking so got it at 1pm. We wolfed it down (2 kids and 2 adults). Yorkshire puds were home cooked and gorgeous, veg was fine, but beef wasn't from a home-cooked joint, and gravy didn't taste homemade. Our only complaint. Loved the friendly service from the owners/managers and the price was very reasonable.... More
